Turbo or Supercharger Vs law in USA?

Hey guys,
i'm wondering what are the police tolerance about engine modification in general.
In france the system are too rude so there is not a lot of guys who upgrade their engine with turbo or supercharger, beside there is a few guy how know how to tune VTEC with turbo or supercharger...

see ya

It depends on wear you live. Cali. is BIG on it b/c of street racing. NY and ATL is a lil bit but more on the out side of the car. I don't think there and any federal law about what you can do its all state. If you had the $$$ you could have a s7 or gt 40 with are both car be driving in the us.

it depends. california is IMPOSSIBLE to do anything to your car w/o getting harrassed by the cops or to pass inspection.

but in jersey, i've heard of people with turbo'd honda's pass our state inspection no questions asked.

Im sure theres laws here in MO but we never get picked on for under the hood modifications. But the ricers do get picked on from time to time for their sweet neons!

But once you cross over into IL and you have MO plates you are screwed. We got pulled over once for my friends exhaust tip being wider than his tires...we were like WTF no its not.

ok if i well understand there is a certain tolerance in function your location.
In france it's depend of the cops, sometimes they can ask you to rise your hood and sometimes they don't care about you.
Guys who have japanese car are lucky because cops don't know it as weel as french car.

see ya

if the cop doesn't know anything about cars, how is he gonna argue with you that your car didn't come turbo'd from the factory?

ya idk but in the US u don't have to pop ur hood unless the cop has a warrant, or has a good reason (like they smell pot in ur engine bay, so as long as u dont keep pot in ur intake.

I know you can't have blue or red lights on your car anywhere in the tristate area. Red for firemen and blue for the cops. When your parked they don't bother me. When I'm driving, thats a different story. Don't ever get caught driving with strobe lights! Its a done deal!

In cali. they can.

As far as neons go for the most part anything that flashes is a no no, you can have red or blue just wear it can been seen from the front. In car neon as long as it not to bright and Under car depends on wear you are some you have to have them cover if your driving. If your parked it doesn't matter what you have. Best advise is to check your local laws or don't have them on wile you drive b/c you stand out 100000x more and more likely to get pulled over.

Lol, my mustang used to be load as F but it sounded so nice, I never got pulled over or given tickets for anything but i would get alot of cops asking me what was in it or what days i went to the track so they could watch me run it

I remember one time i was on my way to california city and i was doing maybe 90-100 and i passed a chp so i slowed down immediately...he looks at me( was wearing sun glasses cause its desert out there) and revs me up, were doing about 80 at this point so i kinda smile like "gd it!" but he revs me up again and kinda tries to take off on me and i was like "oh wtf" so he slows down and looks at me again, gives me this "your turn " nod so i'm thinking- theres no way this guy doesn't know this car is built up the wazoo when all you hear is my engine screaming you can barely hear my exhaust....so i drop it to 4th and the tires start to smoke and i take off and i hit like 130 but i slow down as soon as i hit it....the cop catches up to me and he turns again and just looks at me and picks up his loudphone and just says " nice " lol

but anyway pretty much here in california it depends who gets ya and the mood they're in. alot of cops here build cars themselves so they will 8 out of 10 pull over a guy in a rice rocket than a guy in a throatty mustang....alot of it i think is the attitude you have...rice rocket guys have this wanna be cool attitude that passes them off for dumb asses cause they cut people off and swerve everywhere thinking they're filming fast and the furious 4

LAWS now..oh man they forgive nothing...my friend just got a 300 dollar ticket for putting on an MSD ignition coil, cap and rotor on his 91 hatch....it even comes with a plaque(plack? plac? bah!) that says "50 state legal" or something like that lol

I dont know about vehicle regulation laws. I live in Monnnntana. The only thing illeagal here is the way you drive and lighting. Actually we have a customer who had a truck lifted too high to be legal. Measured to the headlights of an 05 Chevy. I know there are some CRAZY laws tho. My friend was driving thru Utah and got pulled over for having stickers on his truck windows that werent transparent. BS!

i cant believe that 99preludesh that u got pulled over for ur exhaust in illinois! i am in southern illinois and i have a five inch tip from my apex unit and i have gone open header before and got nothing no one cares here. u must have been in chicago or in cairo, they will both give u tickets for anything but anywhere else they leave u alone.

We were in Bloomington and every time we drive through there we seemed to get harassed because of our "rice burners" as they like to say lol.

Here in FL, it doesn't really matter what you have under your hood. It's lighting and driving. A buddy of mine had an SRT Neon, Stage 2, Loud blow-off, and straight exhaust. Never got messed with. He was a custom painter, and he painted a transparent coat of blue paint on his headlights, and really didn't get messed with for that either. Come on down to FL, you'll never get messed with down here.

Cops can't pop your hood, they have to ask YOU to pop it for them, at which point you can refuse, but doing so will just make them suspicious and they'll get you a fix up ticket for some other crap and once you go have it checked out thats where they'll get you cause they'll inspect the whole car most likely
