HID Ballast? Retrofit? Confused.

HEyo guys, so im just wondering, when you get those HID Projectors or retrofits, where do you guys usually put the ballast for the HID's, where do you mount it. I'm trying to figure this out. Kinda confused how this whole thing works with the retrofitting? When you get it done does the back of your headlight still have that rubber peice? or are the wires exposed, i really want to get this done eventually but I would like it to be VERY clean. And how do you know which are better and which aren't? I know there's a lot of talk on here about the ebay Halos and stuff.. I'm just a little confused ! haha

yes this has been covered. but it will probably take hours of searching and reading to find it. first of all the ballasts can be mounted anywhere you want to mount them. the limiting factor is usually the wire that goes from the ballast to the headlight as that is the shortest wire. all the other wires usually have to be bunched up because they are to damn long. lol.

but anyways, that black rubber seal goes away. the clips to hold the bulb in are in the way to put it back on. but he seals up the inside of the housing so no water gets in there..

as for which ones are better and which ones aren't. look at the price. generally you get what you pay for. TSX are just plain awesome. the S2k are ****in ridiculously better. and the BMW ones are good but just dont stack up to the honda ones.

6000K is a good compromise. Much lower and you wind up with yellow/amber/orange, and much higher goes blue. 6000K is a good balance of colour and visibility.

I just got HID's installed yesterday and they are 8000K and they look fine. Its that Hyper Blue color.... looks sweet in the night.

Only question I was pondering was, is there any negatives I should know about HID's.. since this thread is HID related.

negatives like... does it burn the wiring etc... I'm a newbie to the HID crew

Im pretty new aswell, but im pretty sure there isn't anything really negative, other then being too bring for other drivers on the road? It doesn't burn the wires either, pretty sure that's what the ballast is for, well to get more power really.

ok..HID's, the higher you go the denser it gets like brash said. Once you hit 10-12k, you'll get the purple/pink look. And you loose visibility the higher you get. I would suggest getting 6-8k the most. Also...the blue-er you go/w.e color other then white besides amber, you'll catch the pigs attention. they can't give you a ticket but remember if you got an exhaust/tints something they want to write you up for..your screwed..

HID's in halogen lamps are bad. they reflect off the mirrored surface and compromise the visibility of other drivers. retrofit FTMFW!
