TSX Projectors + Ebay housing?

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone knows anything about this...

I know ebay projector headlights can be crap in terms of actual lighting, but i was wondering if its possible, erm should i say practical, to try to fit in real projectors (like TSX ones) into the ebay housing.

that way, I can just fit in good projectors into a housing that is already designed to have projectors.

but since i havnt gone anywhere near an ebay headlight, i have no idea if this is worth trying.

thanks~

I would say that it isn't worth it, ebay projectors run from $200-$300 for a 5th gen. You'd be better off paying the $100 more for the $300 ones as oppose to buying $200 ones and trying to modify them.

I'm still thinking about picking up these Fallin in Love (new projectors)

you're better off just buying some new aftermarket OE lights made by DEPO and retrofitting TSX projectors in those. I've done several retrofits using those lights, and they work great. I get the DEPO lights for only $270 a pair

yeah i figured. its just i cant retrofit for crap.

i read somewhere that you do retrofits? (sry im not too frequent here)
if i got the housing and projectors, roughly how much would it be to retrofit if you still do em? i guess that would include shrouds and all...

thanks for the input tho everyone. im poor and trying to find a cost effective solution to upgrading crappy headlights (without risking making it worse)

EDIT: scratch that i just saw your myspace link. ill take a look lol

That's correct. I've been doing retrofits for about 3 years or so now. If you click the link in my sig. it'll take you to my myspace page which has pics of the setups I've done. For labor to do the TSX setup, I'd only charge $250, but the shrouds are sold seperatly. I normally use the E46 Bi-xenon shrouds for my setups. If you're wanting me to wet sand and reclear your current headlights, I can do that as well for no extra charge.

sorry if im being a cheapskate loser, im really trying to find the best cost effective way to do this. thanks for the info.

it would be super nice if you could also buff my headlights for me, but im not sure how clear you can get em (they're pretty bad).

ill get back to you on this. thanks again.

it's not a problem. I don't mind people finding their own parts and having them shipped to me, cause then I just charge for labor. Sometimes you can find good prices on parts. I can defanitly get your lights cleared up for you as well

Brian I'm not tryin to bite the hand, but I'm just wondering if you can give us a list of parts that are required to do the retrofit. I'd like to know what I have to buy to send to ya. I do NOT want to attempt this myself, wasting $300 or greater by ruining headlights doesn't sound appealing to me lol.

For a TSX setup, this is what you would need

-TSX projectors
-Headlights
-D2S bulbs
-Ballast
-Shrouds(I always use E46 Bi-xenon shrouds)
-Time
-PATIENCE

Shop around, your local autoparts shop might have a good deal on time and patience, especially if you get them together.

ill sell time and patience to someone...at first it may seem like you didnt buy anything, but you just have to be patient and wait. :D ok bad joke.

anyways, what do you think about these shrouds? i think from a Mercedes.

and also, on a side note, are digital ballasts something worth looking into?

I'd probably use those shrouds for an E55 setup. As for digital ballast, I've never heard or seen those before. Happen to have a pic of them?

heres the so called digital ballasts

heres the quote:

Digital Ballast
HID digital intelligence Ballast has the following advantages over common simulative Ballast:
A: Intelligent treatment of controller (in use of artificial intelligence technology for digital treatment and the execution of different processing methods by programming applied to natures of various lighting tube).
B: Operating space of wide voltage7.5V-18.5V.
C: Constant power adaptability proper function of the product when light bulbs and tubes are at the voltage of AC60-150V or so, a constant power of the product contributing to prolong life time of light bulbs, no adjustment required, the products applied to HID light bulbs of different manufacturers from home and abroad.
D: Less light decay 80% light flux which is 60% higher than that of international standard after 2,200 hours duty of the product.
E: Less electronic interference for car devices.
F: No FM radio interference.

I have no idea if it really does all this.

You can save a lot of money on parts if you have the time to find good deals on Ebay and local salvage yards instead of just buying the first thing that comes along.
Also the shroud/bezel you choose makes a huge difference in cost of your retrofits. E46 bezels sell for $100 - $200 just for the bezels.

yeah i'm trying to see what the alternatives for the shrouds can be, cause the e46 ones are pretty costly.

do you guys know if a bmw 530 shroud will fit a tsx projector? i'm not sure of the dimensions of the shroud...

I've never used the 530 shrouds for any retrofit. Reason I use the E46's most often is cause it covers pretty much the whole projector and keeps the OEM look.

im not uber worried about the oem look, but i am concerned about the fitment of the shroud.

heres a pic of the 530 shroud.....i mean if these will work, it will be very nice for me cause i can get em for like 20 bucks vs the 150 dollar e46 ones.

yea, you can get those shrouds to fit. It won't cover too much of the projectors, but you can get them to work

ah brian i have another question :D

would i be able to just use the tsx shrouds? cus i was able to buy tsx projectors still in their housing for like 150, and so since i have the shrouds anyways, what do you think?

would it be a fitment problem? or just an aesthetic one?

So if we "place an order" with you, do you supply all the needed parts? I only ask b/c when I get around to doing mine, I will need to have the headlight housings completely replaced. For me, it would just be easier to tell you, "hey, this is what i want, how much to have them made?"

NOT including the housing, the tsx setup is 800 i think (he provides everything but the housing).
its all in his myspace link.
so you would have to get the housing yourself, unless he can get em for you for added cost.

I was just about to say the same thing better to use DEPO if you are going to do retrofit

would it be a fitment problem? or just an aesthetic one?
Yes the TSX shrouds can still be used

YEs I do. I supply everything except lights which I would need your current lights to complete the work unless if you'd like for me to purchase some new lights which would of course be extra...

its all in his myspace link.
so you would have to get the housing yourself, unless he can get em for you for added cost.
I've lowered my pricing down to $750 now...

yea about the output, on a side note here.

I bought the HIDs about 3 weeks ago and installed them, they were bosche which i knew was a good name in general. However after some research i uncovered the fact that bosche doesnt make HIDs. Then i started thinking, that the temp/color looked really white almost 8K. Theres not much i can do now but buy 4300 bulbs but im pretty sure i bought a knock off product that was not the correct temp by a company who sold something by a brand that it stole from. It really dissapointed me that a company is ok with jerking a huge name brand like that and slapping it on their product.

so in short i think i will be trying out the 4300's of another brand.
