What should I do?

Alright guys, this forum has helped me out a lot, although I don't usually post as much, I do read whatever gets posted.

Now that it is almost spring and soon to be summer I want to do a few things to my 1998 Prelude. First off last year I bought a really expensive car audio setup for my previous car. Right after buying the system, my car was involved in an accident, so soon after that I got my Prelude.

I have two options, I can either install the sound system which is gonna cost me an extra 2 grand for the setup and parts, or I can sell what I have now, an using that money, I can put something else into my car, such as CAI, exhaust, rims, etc. etc.

What would you guys recommend I do. I personally am fine going either way.

If I was to go with performance upgrades to give my car a little more push and look, what would you guys say that I do first.

Thanks for looking. And thanks for the advice.

Cool, thanks for the reply. The only thing is my setup is a really high end setup, which was never installed, due to the accident and financial issues. It will cost me about 2000 dollars more for parts and labor. I can do the install myself, and save about 500 in labor, but I would rather get this professionally done if I am going to go with the sound system.

Now, if I sell my system, I can make at least 2000 out of it, and have that for some upgrades.

By the way, I am happy with my stock deck, and speakers for now, they pump, and sound really good.

CHILLZ I know what you mean, but I know for a fact that a lot of people are hesitant to buy RF products especially people who are serious about car audio.

My setup includes 2 JL Audio Amps, 1 Alpine Amp, and 1 Eclipse Sub. Really high end stuff. Hopefully both of us have some good luck on getting rid of our stuff.

Also, I was thinking of doing a CAI, window tints, coil-overs, and some new rims for now, to give the car a bit of styling for now. Later on in the summer, I would be adding a exhaust header, such as Mugen, and a high-flow cat with cat-back exhaust.

Also, should I change my intake header, or just stick with the one I got, and what about a bigger bore throtte body, I would guess that more air, would give me more power? Correct me if I am wrong.

you should sell off the high end audio equipment, buy some cheaper yet still high end audio, then use the rest for the other mods..or save it

The problem with me is that I don't like to cheap out, If I was gonna get high end audio, I'd want it to be worthwhile of my money and installing expense.

I am also not to worried about my sound system as much as the performance and styling issues. When I had my previous car, I was into sound, because it was not a performance car, and nothing short of putting a new engine would have mattered.

I think if you can live with the stock sound thats in there now, it would be a much wiser investment to use the money for performance. I don't know if it's just me, but I think performance over styling is always the way to go, unless your car wasnt built for performance; but we all know the prelude is made to be a performance car ;)

I installed a pioneer 50watt x4 stereo (ipod compatible) and am going with some nice speakers when I get the time/$$$. This will be sufficient for a sound system. I would put most of my $$$ into performance if I were you. And I listen to music everywhere I go.... Its much more satisfying to pull up next to another prelude and be able to reach the next stop light faster than him, than to have more bass in your stereo system... IMO

That's true, thanks for the input.

Also I was talking around local shops over here, and they wanted $320 for an all around tint. What would you guys say to that?

Also there is a shop over here that said that they can get me a Megan exhaust header (4-2-1) for $200, a Megan cat-back exhaust for $500, and a high-flow cat for $100. What do you think of these prices and the products? Is there something else you would recommend? Also an AEM short ram for $180.

Would you guys suggest going for a CAI or a Short ram if this car is driven all year round, this is in Toronto, Canada by the way.

if i were you i would sell the system you have now. then buy a cheaper amp and subs like a kicker L5 10 ($175) and buy an alarm system if you dont have one already. then i would get i/h/e. $320 is a little steep for tint unless they are taking you old tint off also. not sure about the megan parts, im not that familar with them.

I would say $320 for tint on a 2 door car is a butt rape price. I had my windows tinted 35% all the way around for about $175. If youre going darker or mirror tint or something, maybe its more, but I wouldn't pay that much for tint.

The exhaust parts you described seem in line with those prices, but if you have a shop get all your parts, they will mark em up (i work at a dealership, I know) you may find them individually for a better price. But if you pay their prices, youre paying them to find and ship parts in.

As far as the CAI goes, I hear going with AEM, you are just paying for the name. A vibrant CAI will acheive very simliar power gains, sounds great at 3K rpms + and I bought mine from bap geon for like $70. Just tap the accel pedal and you can here your engine "ssswwwwwwuuuuuhhhhh" sucking air in. All CAI is: metal tubing with filter clamped to end. IF you wana pay 200 bones for an air filter... its your car, do as you like.

If I was to go with something other than Megan Racing products, what would you guys recommend? In specific I wanted to know about the Tanabe line, and the Greddy line, I know the Evo is very popular, but I am hesitant to get that.

Heard alot of good things about the Tanabe's but not from people who have preludes, can you guys give me some insight into these lines?
