Help! midwoofer in door

Yesterday I started the hi-fi car stereo system on my Prelude. No problems to put the wire cables (the power cable from the battery has mad me damn for a bit... but not so much...), now all it's ready but there is a problem concerning the front speakers: the midwoofer are too deep (74mm) for the door (maximum 52mm). The problem is that behind the plastic cover there is the frame of the electric side glass, so it's not possibile to obtain a deeper place for the speaker.
How have you done to fit a midwoofer?!?

Well, that's one answer. I'm having a simular issue with my 6 1/2"s too. I'm probablly going to make a shim though because that would fix the depth issue along with the different mount, 3 screws for the stock speaker and 4 for the Inifnity Reference. To find the depth of the shim you need just measure the depth from the back of the mounting plate to the back of the magnet housing, and measure the front of the mounting surface in the door to the front of that plastic guard housing thing.

The problem is that i've already bought the speakers (they come from another car of mine) and they are really good, so I want them in the Lude. I think I should modify the lower part of the door panel, with a fiberglass work. Then I will cover it with black leather, to have a genuine look. A hard work, but I don't see any other way to fit them. If I did so, i will make a "how to" for this forum.
It would not be the first time for me to do a similar mod, but this is more difficult... Hope not to do demages

Does anyone know of speakers that will actually fit?
Could you get new stock speakers from a dealer?

I feel your pain. I had installed some MTX Componets and the mid woofer was too deep. All I did was get a 1" spacer to put the speaker on. Don't worry, the grill will still cover the speaker and snap into place. Only cost me about $15 for the set. This way you will not have to cut the basket. That was in my 4th gen, my 5th gen was a whole new ball of problems.

Later !!!

Get or make spacers. If you get spacers, get something like these but solid all the way around of course and use long screws.

Make an MDF spacer, also called a speaker baffle. I had the same issue.

Cut that basket out. It's not like it's a structural part or anything. That gives you another 20+mm to play with.

Problem is even after you cut the door basket out like below, you still can barley clear the window track. You will still need a baffle to mount the speaker to. For a Hybrid Audio L6 speaker to fit in a 5th gen door it requires a a wedge chaped baffle that is 2 1/2 inches wedged to 1 3/4 inches. This just an example. I have pics of the baffle someone wants to see them. I am still owrking on the door so no pics of the baffle mounted yet. The first couple pic is with the L6 in door with the plastic basket still there. Third pic is after I cut it out.

My problem is like yours. My speakers are a little less deep, but the problem is the same. I think to create a new shape using MDF and glassfiber, then cover everything with black leather (around the speaker) and with specific fabric (on the speaker). The results is something like this, but I hope it will be more beautiful...

I used an MDF baffle mounted to the metal door skin and was able to not modify the the panel any further than you see above and retain the factory grill.

No need to make the above or do alot of cutting. The above is known as a door pod, that you are talking about.

but the problem is not the plastic basket, but the frame of the side window... I can cut the basket, but not the frame. So it's not possible to fit a deep speaker like the one that Genxx has posted.
