Reverse Glow Gauges

I had this sweet gauge face in my old 89 nissan maxima. It came stock as far as i know. It would light up in reverse colors at night. Really cool colors. One of the first things i noticed about my 97 base is the stock ugly orange gauge face. Ive been lookin around on ebay and found some, but none with the colors i like. Ive also noticed some of the ebay ones you can change colors and supposedly have a dimmer switch. My lude already has a stock dimmer switch for the dash lights. Will this cause a problem? Anyone know a good place to shop these? I cant see spending bookoo $$$ on this. I checked out speedohut and they have custom ones that are too pricey. I dont really want anything that fancy anyways. Just something with cool colors. As far as installation, is it just remove dash, unplug and install new in reverse order? Do the needle have to come off to install? Does this mess with accuracy of speedo/tach? If anyone has installed one and liked or dislike the results, please post here.

I bought mine off ebay, but from a private seller. They are purple and pink but can change to a slight blue and red. They came with a separate switch box to change the color. I had to wire it in with the rest of everything, not too complicated, but it was time consuming. Mine works with the stock dimmer and also has its own color change box that looks just like the dimmer switch. You also have to have really small hands to fit up in the back side to wire it in....that sucked! It is also a two person job so make sure you have some help....I can go in to more detail about putting them in if you want. I can also go check what brand mine are.

If you just want the color to change, here is a write up:

INT: 5th gen - How to change the color of a 5th gen's gauge cluster

There is another thread that i can't seem to find that shows how you can use strip LEDs also and it really makes the new color stand out nicely. Maybe someone else knows where it is?

ONly part of the installation that im concerned about is any wiring needed. If you could explain what u actually did as far as wiring dimmer switch that would be great. What brand is yours? If you could add some pics, that would be great!

the wiring is the easy part. all it is is a ground wire and a 12V wire that you splice into the output side of the dimmer's 12V and voila, you have adjustable dimmer control. The gauges should also have a separete ribbon-style cable with a button on the end of it that allows you to change the color of the gauges. This peice can be mounted wherever you want. I'd be more worried about how thick the gauges are you are getting b/c some of the cheaper brands are known to cause the needles to get "hung" causing inaccurate readings.

So here are some pics:
These are the gauges I have now

These are the ones I took out, the wire box has a short in it. This is what they should look like when you get them.
