Prelude changes/ 97-01

I was just wondering what the main changes are from the 97 to 01 models. I'm looking into buying a lude and the 97-99 are a lot cheaper than the 00 or 01.

no major changes apart from red top engine on the later model and if your lucky you get leather interior.

The red top engine only came on the JDM and some EDM ludes... not a single USDM lude ever came with a red top that I know of.... also I don't think leather seats were offered in USDM any years (i could be wrong about that though).

Different years had different body color options... also the 97 (and possibly 98... can't remember) didn't come with remote keyless entry/alarm. Also, the 97-98 ludes have a different upper grille than the 99-01 ludes (97-98 had straight horizontal lines similar to accord upper grilles... 99-01 had the more popular "Honeycomb" grille). And the last thing I can think of off the top of my head is that 97-98 and 99-01 offered two different cloth patterns for the seats.

Edit: Also... 97-98 ludes were rated at 195hp while 99-01 ludes were rated at 200hp. However... it's widely believed that there's really no difference.

Here is the breakdown according to consumer guide.

Year to Year Changes
1998 Honda Prelude: New paint colors were the only change for 1998.
1999 Honda Prelude: More new colors became available, but only one interior hue: black. The Prelude's engine gained 5 horsepower, and did not require a tune-up until 100,00 miles. Remote locking now was a standard feature.
2000 Honda Prelude: Preludes entered the 2000 model year without change.
2001 Honda Prelude: Standard floormats, rear child-seat tethers, an emergency trunk release were the main changes for 2001. Prelude would not continue for 2002.

Also the 99-01 have the word Prelude in the grill, my 98 does not.

The 97-98 is 190 hp, and 99-01 is 195.
Other than that, the main thing to know is the interior pattern changed in 99 as did the front grille.
Other than that, just colors and stuff like remote entry.
