Funny new sig Neck!

Back to basics here, is there fuel in the tank? (It's not as stupid as it seems, I've known a number of people to do huge rebuilds on their cars, then spend weeks troubleshooting because it won't run only to find an empty tank)

Then fuses and relays like Nick said.

checked the fueses and relayes, their is a half of tank in the gas lol first thing i checked. What does the fuel pump sound like when it comes on right now i trun the key and just hear a whining sound. Could moisture have gotten into the tank and thats what is messing me up ??? im so confused on this first massive thing i have ever done to a car.

Yeah that sound is the fuel pump priming... when you say that "nothing's happening" when you try to start her up, please elaborate. Is it cranking but not running? Is literally "nothing" happening? Can you hear your spark plugs igniting, but no cranking?

Make sure you check all your grounds, fuses, and relays. Also, what condition is your battery in?

So it's cranking but it just doesn't wanna actually kick over and run? Honestly, I say just keep trying to get her started... and then once she finally kicks over and runs, let her run for like a half hour before you shut her down again. I don't know what could be causing your problem though, sorry =(.

I'm sure someone else will come in here and give you some better info though.

I highly doubt it... You might have slight moisture build up in your block or tank.. but I doubt that your motor is "flooded". My car has been sitting outside since late November... the other day I started her up for the first time since then and she started up on the first try...

It's just strange that she started right up and then after you turned it off you can't get it running again... strange indeed. Like I said... I would just keep trying to get her started, and if you do indeed get her to run again, let it run for a good while before you shut her down again.

It may not be it but to answer your question about water in the tank...

Go to walgreens and get a quart or two of rubbing alcohol, the highest % you can find and put it in your tank, then let it sit for a minute then start it up and let it run

that sounds a bit scary but hey hum v's are known to run on 80 proof!

anyways, you said the starter is spinning? is it actually turning the flywheel too? If not, something may not be lined up properly with your clutch disc or fw. Since the starter is fairly easy to remove, you may want to pull it just so you can look to see if the flywheel is not alligned or is loose or myabe you could just see if something went wrong when you initially cranked it. It's always possible one of your new parts are defective. Any trouble when you put the tranny back in? If the flywheel is turning but engine won't turn over, you may want to take a glance at the timing belt too(highly unlikely, but a bad t-belt has the same symptoms you have). When I did my clutch/fw swap i was worried b/c i forgot to ground the starter so even that wouldn't turn. Afterwards it cranked up just fine.

ok so i have been working on it and got it so stinking close to firing up i am pretty sure my battary is dead... im going to have a buddy of mine come out and work on her and we are more than likely replacing the fuel filter to. I dumped some heat into the gas tank and that started to help but i think what helped the most was that plug i have no clue what it is but it really needed it...

When you say plug, do you mean electrical plug? or like a fluid plug? It might be your VSS, but I'm not sure. Did jumping the battery help?

yes, it is the VSS. It is located directly below and behind the shifter cables on the back of the tranny. you may want to disconnect your battery for a few minutes if you tried to crank the car with that piece unplugged. it may have tripped the ecu so you will want to reset it.

i dont think its the VSS, cuz he said its on the bottom of the tranny; the VSS is on top of the tranny. other than that, the only other "plug" that i can think of on the tranny is the reverse gear plug, which is also on top the tranny.
maybe the 5th gen has an extra plug

also, not only was i able to start the car, but i was able to drive with a busted VSS and speedo.

^^ yea that's what i was thinking too. The only thing on the bottom side is the O2 sensor but that doesn't really go to the tranny

well, you got a base 5G, where there any plugs on the bottom of the tranny when you did your clutch?

nope, i just looked all through the service manual, it's only gonna be the O2 sensor wire, the VSS connector, the reverse switch, or the intake sensor to the vacuum tank (by the intake itself). Either way, the car should start. Only other things I can think of is to just make sure the clutch lines all went back together properly without getting bent, make sure the tranny has enough fluid in it after the flush, check the starter cables (3 of 'em), and check to make sure the shift linkage all went back together properly.

When you press the clutch in, how does the pedal feel? any strange noises coming from the clutch area itself?

It doesn't sound like a mechanical issue anymore, def seems like it is an electrical issue, may be a good time to do a fuse check.

Electrical issues suck.... my ODO and trip ODO no longer work in my car... but my Speedo and Tach work just fine so I really don't think it's a VSS issue... I think I'm gonna have to tare my **** apart to figure that out... because not knowing how many miles i'm driving is ****in with my travel reimbursements at work.
