Changing Fuel Filter, Cleaning EGR

Well, my 97 lude has 120k miles on it and its starting to feel its age... Im wondering if HOnda recommends chaning fuel filter at a certain mileage? Would changing the filter make a noticeable difference?
Also, i hear there is egr on this engine? I never knew that. I work for MACK Trucks and know these big trucks have egr valves and coolers and all sorts of piping and sensors for the EGR system.... Can the egr system be easily accessed and cleaned? And would this also make an older 5th gen run a little better?

Actually, blocking your egr with a plate will give you better gas mileage and some +hp. I also heard that all US cars have an egr valve. The egr is connected on the intake manifold on the tranny side I think.

Not a good idea to block off your EGR. You will throw a check engine light.

It's always a good idea to replace the fuel filter...120,000 miles of sediments and little particles that are caught in the filter are, in the filter

you wont throw a light if you block it but you will if you disconnect it @ least on other cars..i havent done it to my lude yet,
it doesnt rob gas milage as far as ive read and been told and have seen on other cars

you buy or make a plate and take the egr off and put the plate there and put the egr back on over it....you are supposed to put the gasket on one of the sides of the plate but i forget which side...they sell the plates on ebay if you dont want to make one

How does the EGR work? I know on MACKs the system returns exhaust gases from exhaust ports, cools and sends back into the engine to burn all oxygen, for emissions. Is it similar on a honda? Why is it on the intake manifold?

not sure if its actually on it..i havent looked at it recently..its either on or around that general area...check in the manual....egr's pretty much the same for any engine it recirculates exhaust gas, theres different designs and all that but in the end they do the same thing ha
