The only reason why I didn't say Seibon was cuz one of our members Mizlude just had a nightmare with them:

Yes, VIS makes CF trunks. But @ $730, I could put that money to MUCH better use.

CF hoods and trunks have a clear coat over them just like regular paint. You can wash it and wax it just like you would regular paint. It should also resist scratching the same amount as regular paint, assuming you have a clear coat on the hood (which I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't have one)

I have both.. VIS hood and trunk.. fitment on them was great.. and the trunk is worth the price if you are worried about weight.. i don't know the exact drop in weight from stock.. but my truck feels like a feather when i open it

I'm not sure about the weight drop, but I know, even in opening the stock hood, its heavy as hell....Its a huge hood, Just about as long as the Impala's hood, and that car's 18 ft long! But I'm able to pick up the cf hood, and carry it under one arm.

Since we're all in on this carbon fiber hood/trunk discussion, are carbon fiber pieces easily damaged by extreme hot or cold weather. My brother, who hates CF anything, or anyone who uses CF on anything short of a race car, (besides suggesting that I dont use CF because it makes me a ricer...I love that guy) said that carbon fiber will crack if the temperature drops below a certain temp....
Is he right....or just trying to keep me from becoming a ricer?

VIS is very good.
Another good thing about carbon fiber, if the clear coat gets damaged, you can get it re-finished. If it gets cracked, then you're just SOL.
Ricers outplay carbon fiber but it can look good. I like it for the functionality of being lightweight more than the look.

Is Pro Street Online a good place to buy CF hoods? I was looking at the ViS CF EOM hood for $446.53 http://www.prostreetonline.com/pnsku/visoem43.asp and when I went to checkout it said that "Shipping for the above items is either free, or can not be calculated" and if it's free that seems like a good deal but if it's $150-$200 like it is everywhere else it doesn't seem especially cheap.

I think he was referring to whether the actual edges of the hood were rolled (i.e. smooth like an exhaut with rolled edges) or if they had a hard edge.
:heeeelllllooooo:
So rolled would be good. Hes not talking about if the hood will warp...

Does anyone know how much lighter the cf hood is compared to oem? Also, is the weight reduction worth the price (from a performance standpoint)? I was thinking about getting one, but seems like it'd be better to go for a performance part with that price to overcome the weight savings...what do you guys think?

your not gonna notice any difference in handling or acceleration, thats for sure.

i'm gonna guesstimate that a stock hood is around.... 35 pounds, and a CF is about 12.

I've heard the stock hood is 40 lbs. (which seems correct, I've taken mine off) and CF hoods are about 25 lbs.

Close but not quite.

OEM Hood on my 98 was close to 50lbs and the CF hood I have(VIS) is 11lbs.

Word of advice to you though, if you do get a CF hood, get some hood pins to go with it. Might not look too good to some, and others think it is RICE, but better safe than sorry.

I was right next to my friend a few years ago, his hood latch broke off and there goes his windshield. Well that was from driving about 110 mph (not my friend any more)

Later !!! And good luck !

I am in the market for the VIS cf hood. Can someone tell me what a good/reasonable price is and at what point is it just getting ripped-off? I'm not very familiar with the cost of replacing body parts (cf or oem) but I am tired of all the little rock chips in my hood and i found some rust on the edge up by the windshield. Plus the weight reduction sounds nice too.
