Im new to the forum too, but have had my 97 lude since August 2005. I bought it because:

1. I could afford it, paid it off in less than 2 years. I paid less than KBB value
2. Its a Honda, it runs forever
3. Decent gas mileage
4. I like the body style, cant say the same for most new cars...
5. Aftermarket parts are readily available.
6. Its not difficult to work on. Ive found its a good car to learn how to do repairs with.

7. Oh... and don't forget about VTEC... it makes it fun to drive!

The lude is simply a classy car. It's reasonably quick, handles like its on rails, and has nice cozy interior. It was a difficult transition going from driving a 4200lb sedan with a roaring smallblock LT1 and a cavernous interior to a Prelude. It took some getting used to. Trust me, you won't be disappointed (especially if you opt for the 5sp).
And if you're a corner carver like myself, go for the SH. ATTS Yeehaw

ATTS - Active Torque Transfer System. It basically sees how the driver is flailing his arms around and how much sweat is pouring off his/her forehead and decides which wheel to send the torque to...essentially a LSD but rather than waiting for the inside wheel to break loose it automatically sends the torque to the outside wheel. That's a very basic overview.

Well I was looking for a sporty car that would be good on the long drives across the country that I do periodically, but was agile enough to tackle the winding mountain pass style roads that I take to golf every weekend.

I drove a lot of cars, a 302 V8 Ford, a LS1 Holden, 325i BMW but none of them seemed up to the task. I've always loved the look of the 5g Prelude so looked at one of them. Drove it, had to have it, bought it. Loved every minute of it

i've bought it because I like coupè cars, and in my family we are all Hondists...

But my passion are the '70-'80 italian cars. I don't know if in the USA you do know them. If you don't, here they are some samples (excuse me for the offtopic...) of some models of Lancia.

Lancia Stratos HF. A world rally champion.

Lancia 037

and now....

Lancia Delta S4. My favorite one. Ok, it's not the most beautiful car in the world, but it's a war car... think about this: at the top of its developement, it had a 4 cylinders engine of only 1800cc but with both turbo and volumetric compressor, for 600Hp (!). 4 wheels drive, 0-100Km/h into 2.8s (world record for a rally car), carbon fiber panels (in the '80!). It's not easy to take 600Hp from a 1800cc today, think about how was it difficult in the '80! No traction control, no abs, no electronic helps. Nothing! Only a terrifing engine!
It won imediately the world rally championship, but the cars were too dangerous so the next year WRC rules changed... And changed the cars (300Hp maximum power). It was the end of the Delta S4, even if Lancia had already a new amazing car ready (the ECV2) that was 650Hp and full carbon fiber chassis... for only 720Kg!

Look at what it can do, and consider that these are not the ufficial ones!!!

Oh yes, i forgot to mention the cornering. I thought it was just my prelude that cornered tighter than a Columbian necktie!!! Joking. They all do. Add some bracing to the suspension and you have virtually no lateral roll effect in corners. Its flippin' sweet!

I love where this thread has gone.
Neck, you don't even have a 5th gen, GTFO!
You're just jealous cause your H23's keep crapping on you.

I got a 5th gen cause I was sick of the interior of my 4th gen and I wanted an H22. I found a great deal on one I couldn't pass up so e and my dad drove 7 hours to get it and he got my 4th gen, which he sold 2 weeks ago, because he was tired of it. 5th gens FTMFW!

I got the car because I knew it was a chick magnet. Oh yes it has worked its magic many times over.

The car is so sexy, the lines are perfect.
The power and handling are amazing for a 4 cylinder coupe.

Umm long story, I'll try to make it short.

Way back I drove a 2rd Gen Prelude (learner's permit and loved it. About 20 years ago, yeah I'm old.)
I finally bought a 3rd Gen back about 3 to 4 years ago. But I really wanted a 5th Gen and started looking when I finally found one for a pretty good deal I bought it. Sold the 3rg Gen I had a 90 SI needed alot of body work.

Again I think it is the lines and also the decent power and handling. I have a friend with a SR 20 Nissan 240, He told me when I got my 5th Gen Prelude "Ah yeah VTEC all the lag and none of the boost. "

Well he ate his words he tried to loose me on some back roads here in VA and I was right on his tail, I could have even passed if it were safe (two lane road) Don't pass on suiside lane in curves.

He has invited me to a SCCA Motor X event to put the Lude to the test this spring.

I had 2 3rd gens and loved both of them. wrecked one, sold the other, got a 96 accord. that was too slow and i hated working on the interior of 4th gens. So then i was up between a WRX and a 5th gen. 5th Gen was 2k cheaper, had less mileage and (IMO) has WAY more class and style. plus it's an EBP

well i had a 92 prelude that i had swapped a h22 into and did alot of other things. unti this guy in a honda pilot ran a stop light and totalled my car. their insurance tried to screw me but i ended up getting a good bit of my investment back. i knew i had to get another lude but didn't really think about getting a 5th gen until i found and test drove one. it was pretty quick so i decided to buy her and make her a lil quicker.

i didn't buy a 5th gen even though i was looking for a 01 EBP sh w/ leather..very hard to find..and when i did find one it was 17K but it only had 25k miles on it so i just got my 4th gen w/ 125k miles on for 4500

BTW if you love taking corners get 4WS not ATTS lol just messing with you 5th geners

I wanted something 2 door 5 speed that wasn't a civic, mustang, cavalier, well domestic of any sort. That pretty much narrowed down between a M3 and the lude. I got the lude cause the insurance was a hella lot cheaper!
