Question

I recently purchased this car (2001 Prelude SE w/ 120kms) and Ive been wondering about the RPMS at highway speeds. I am typically doing 4K revs at 120 km/h.. is this normal? I've heard that these cars aren't fuel savers, and I am really not worried about the mileage. I'm just wondering if this is typical? Thanks a ton guys.

I Kind of figured as much. Thanks dude.

On a side note: I've had alot of friends tell me that my car is nice, but the 4g lude is ****ing killer. They love the headlights. It's tru too, though.. I never really noticed but the curvy lude looks tight.

Yeah, it has heated seats and heated mirrors. I don't know if the mirrors fold, I'll have to check today.

I guess it doesn't have the folding mirrors. It also doesn't have a spoiler (which I think looks better anyway) that was supposed to come stock with the SH model. I can't seem to find much info on the Canadian SE model... my car has leather seats, leather shift knob, and heated power mirrors. I can't see an ATTS light anywhere in the dash when I'm turning the car on, I waited just to find out.

I had thought at first that the SE was Canada's version of the SH, but in another post I noticed that Canada was shipped the base, SE, and SH models. I'm just wondering if I have an actual SE or someone slapped a badge on the back. Maybe someone could carfax it if it's possible? The VIN is JHMBB61721C802677.

Don't get me wrong, I love this car and I'm happy as hell with it. Just wondering. Thanks guys.

Very normal and as for the fuel mileage. . . I get my best economy when doing 4-5K rpms in 5th gear on the open highway! 34 miles to the gallon being my personal best, stock H22A4 motor 5 speed.

It's all in the driving method. You can save gas at the expense of power by keeping your RPMs down basically...

It's called GRANDMA driving haha or at least that is what my bf calls it. Basically I stay at around 2000rpms all the time, once I hit about 35-40 mph I am in 5th. Don't me wrong I love the feeling of vtec but not for everyday driving.

I don't mean to put anyone down or the car or anything, but this vtec to me feels like just a jerk and nothing more =\ I mean its a nice little umpth to change a lane or pick up speed in the freeway but other than that i don't see much bragging rights to that thing....i dunno i'm a muscle car guy at heart i guess and when you drive around in a car that can break your neck you have trouble adapting to the slower thingamajiggers!

LOl my friend told me the other day, cause we were driving in my car doing like 120 and i was taking some pretty good turns and i start messing around with him "Super Handling baby you know you can't beat that SH!" he goes "one of these days you're gonna super handle your ass into a wall" LOLOL! bastard =\

the 5th gen was rated at 24 mpg city, 27 mpg around town. How your mileage differs from that depends on tune and driving style. I have to drive like a grandma to get my 29 mpg commute average.

I've only broken 30mpg one time. When I bought the Lude, I wasnt lookin for a hybrid's gas mileage. Anything was better than 20mpg and $60 a tank.

the SH is rated at 19.4 city and 23 highway- no idea how you guys are doing so much

What does me in is that i have to drive 26 miles to and from work and mostly at a speed of 80 as an average, so that runs rpms pretty high and helps in the fuel consumption quite a bit
I've tried granna driving on these cars but it kills me cause theres absolutely no torque. Even at low gears with high rpms you barely have any torque!! i drive in 4th most of the time around 3k or a bit higher, RARELY do i ever get to use 5th on the street- being that i live in LA you never really see open road that allows it

I'm sure my speed has alot to do with my gas- a full tank lasts me about 4 days having to refuel by friday and then again by sunday cause i drive so much on the weekend LOL! damn! its so much fun though to drive fast around these freeway's at night- its very common to see really expensive/fast cars crusing at night and sometimes you drive with them next thing you know you're doing 120 and you're in santa monica lolol!

Funny thing- yesterday there was a guy pulled over on the side of the street in his LAMBORGUINI if i spelled it right- an orange one- he's outside arguing with the cop and i hear the funniest thing- he says " WHAT DO YOU MEAN I WAS SPEEDING?!" LOL! who rents a lambo/buys a lambo and doesn't speed in it?!!!! haha what a liar oh man it was great

Well, I wish I was that lucky. I still have to stop for gas once a week, but it doesnt hurt nearly as bad putting in 35 as opposed to 60.

Brute, where'd you get that info from?

i'm spending about 45 bucks every fill up i stick the gas gun out and just shoot the gas in to make sure i fill even the tube that goes down to the tank LOL! imagine me with my supercharged 347 stroker, i was putting a full tank in every 2 1/2 days =\ =\ =\ =\ god i would fly though- sigh i miss that car so much

car and driver review page- it says everything about the car, it even tells you what the most common parts that break are, how much it costs to fix them etc etc

i got it on the net someonewhere, i think i put it all up in one of my other earlier posts

Hmmm... I guess I'm just a lucky bastard, or running lean as **** lol. On my way to and from Newburgh, NY, I was getting almost 30mpg on the highway. I got all the way there on just over 12 gallons of gas (over 350 mile trip for me).

The first time I filled the lude it cost me $50 to fill it from empty. I got about 400kms, but I also had to warm it up every day before I drove it. Not to mention demonstrating to my friends what VTEC sounds/feels like lol. I figure I can get about 500kms to a tank if I drive like an old lady. The last car I had was an 88 Civic h/b with a 1.5L... $30 to fill it and I got 512kms as a personal best. Too bad it was such a dog haha.
