if i put a 4-1 header instead of a 4-2-1 header on my 5th gen would i see any power gains

that depends. a $60 ebay header will be a stock replacement header with no gains, maybe even a loss of power/torque.

but an $800+ header (like rmf, smsp, hytech, etc) have been proven to give around 10-15hp, tuned that is.

thats what i meant

headers are you get what you pay for,
im sure you noticed, just as anyone else will notice, whether you gain/lose power i noticed that the car had a different feel and ran smoother.

if you dont plan on spending alot of money, stick to the stock header. It's pretty good in itself. I've tuned two h22's with stock headers and they made great power.

I would like an answer to this question as well. All things being equal, is a 4-1 better than a 4-2-1 and why? Better flow? I know it's all relative and is determined on how the manufacturer makes it, but if 4-1 is better, then by how much, any numbers? <--Run on sentence.

The stock header is as good as an >$500 header you'll get new. You might strike a deal and find an RMF or something in used condition.

If I remember correctly, the 4-1 header is going to be a little better on top end and the 4-2-1 (If it's going correct diameters and design) is better on mid range. Someone correct me if I'm wrong there.

Also, the nice headers like SMSP really shine when internals are done. Yes, you'll see some gains on stock internals, but when you have pistons and the head built with high compression, that's where you'll get the most out of your header.
