Tranny problems... maybe... i dont know

so i have had my lude for a while now and it seems like the whole thing is falling apart all at the same time... my slave cylinder has been going out and i have been filling up the clutch fluid resevor with honda dot 3 break fluid... now 3rd gear grinds not everytime only every now and then and only in Vtec... so am i losing 3rd gear or does it have to do with my other problems... i am also throwing 3 cel codes one because of my o2 sensor and one for running to lean and then another for my egr not getting enough air flow do all those have to relate to each other??? sorry for the stupid questions im just trying to figure this out and thought you guys could help thanks...

Yes all three codes relate. Get your new O2 sensor try to make sure you replace the right one(generally I think the one closest to the front goes bad before the other one I could be wrong) these things are very exspensive thats why I say be sure you get the right one, and get a new EGR valve, then un hook your battery for a little bit then re connect it after you install these items to reset your computer. Once you do that your running too lean code should disappear along with the other two.

As for the tranny no your not loosing 3rd gear you are loosing your syncronizer between 2nd and 3rd. Try not to rev it so hard, when shifting to 3rd. If you want it to last a little longer before you can overhaul your tranny. Just take it easy on it. One way is to push in the clutch then put a little bit of pressure on the gear shifter to slide it from 2nd to 3rd. Remember just take it out of gear and don't yank it into 3rd, just put pressure on the shifter and it will slide right in like a knife through hot butter. ( this won't work on a hard acceleration this will help you from tearing up your 3rd gear.)

Good luck

Check like sparkplugs.com or Denso.com for O2 sensors. Much cheaper (like $50.00Ea) and same as OEM. You can get plug and play ones and don't have to splice wires.

On the EGR valve, clean it. There are write-ups for this. Get the EGR port plugs which are like $0.30Ea and do it right. Worse case you may need to get a new one but probably not.

On the trans., start by changing the trans fluid. Do it drive it for 50-75 miles and do it again. May have to do it 3 times total. What's the mileage on the car? Has it been done before?

Get yourself a slave cylinder, they really aren't that much and you can get them from alot of different places.

Good luck with it and let us know how it turns out.

Not too hard at all. Do you know where it is located? If not open the hood look at the front of the motor where the bell housing meets the engine block. Right on the side of the tranny you'll see it. There is two bolts not sure what size bolts 13mm maybe I forget. Unscrew the hydraulic line from the cylinder make sure you have either a can or a plastic bag or something to catch the fluid. Screw the new slave cylinder onto the line, and bolt it back on. Now you'll need a friend to help you out to bleed the line. If you need any other advice just hit the thread back and ask. Good luck

i wouldn't take for granted that any of the maintainance was done on a salvage title car (unless you can find records). I would change every filter & fluid, and plugs & wires, cap & rotor, alignment etc. as budget & weather permits.

hey i have similar problem but on my 4th gen lude. my third gear grinds when i throw it hard, if i put it in soft and gentle it goes in just fine, but a little fast and it grinds.

on the track it sometimes doesn't go in and i got to throw it again, it sucks. thats a main reason i don't take it to the tracks anymore. many have told me its the gears synchros.

also my MIL is throwing code 12, which is also the EGR.
looks like we have the same symptoms jaja.

is there any risks in driving the car with the EGR problem?
