do you mean your check engine light? go to autozone or advance auto parts and they check it for free. if its the maintenance required light it has 3 different colors, green, yellow, and red. red means you're due for an oil change.

Let me guess, it was green and now is red?

There is a little slot by it. Stick your key in that slot and it will turn it back green.

Open the owners manual and see what service is recommended for the mileage you have on the car.

your maintenance light just goes off mileage. it has nothing to do with any sensors.. NOTHING. at certain intervals it changes color. green means your good. yellow means you are close, and red means you need an oil change... its only for oil changes...

i know a mate who put a cheap ass filter which was too small for the car and that made the maintenance light come on.

The "maintence required" light ONLY goes off mileage, nothing else. Dont worry. It just makes you think of getting routine maintanence done. It doesnt come on if something is wrong. Your check engine light will go off for that. Just put your key and hold it until it turns green. Dont Worry.

R8GYY- Maybe made his "Check Engine" light go off but wouldnt make his maintenence light go off.

If there's one thing I'm sick of, it's customers who come in and think they have a problem because their maintainable light is on. "Now, I just bought this car a few months ago, so it's under warranty." I suppose the real problem is because Chevy and Ford use "Service Engine Soon" lights as Check Engine lights

^lol, that's one of the Honda "Quirks" during years 1996-2001. I believe all Hondas had that and some Acuras too.

I think it also turns another color after red, like brown...or am i just buggin?

Honda has been using it longer than 96.

My 92, 93 and 94 Accords all had it.

the maintenance required light is not only for oil changes all the time...depending on what mileage your car is at, their are certain things that need to be inspected on a normal service type, and some on a severe service type. They are both pretty much the same, you either inspect, adjust, rotate, or replace that particular part that is mentioned(depending on the mileage).

Yeah, the 90+ Accords had the old school green to red tab, but now they all have either a light, or digital warning on the ODO. And, yes, it's not necessarily an "oil change" light but "recommended service" light

Unless you have check engine light on I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe give your lude a tune up, change the air filter, change the oil and oil filter and reset the thing like was said in a earlier post I think that little service thing recommends service I guess it somehow reads mileage between resets and lets you know its time for oil change etc.

Idea, get one of those Haynes manuals and read it then you'll know for sure what it does.

Yeah, it is backlit like the rest of your instrument panel. If you look at it very closely in the day time you will notice that it's still green, just not lit up. This isn't so much a light, as it is an indicator. The "light" won't come on when it's time to service, it will simply change from green to yellow or red... and just like everyone else said, this is not something that polls sensors... it is simply based on mileage intervals. So even if it does change colors, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a problem... it just means that you just hit a milestone mileage and should take the appropriate actions as described in your maintenance manual for that specific mileage.
