Icon2 PLEASE HELP Passenger side harness issue

whatís going on guys, iíve searched for hours on my issue but it doesnít seem like a common problem and most ppl donít even know what iím talking about cause itís such a rare issue. well this is whatís going on
iíve had this 99 prelude for almost a year a now and it had no ac... well it had ac it just wasnít working, compressor wonít kick on. after months of diagnosis and trial and error a mechanic i took it to told me itís missing a whole harness on the passenger side inner fender... this really surprised me but this car had a h22a swap so i assumed it was a botched swap but the car has been running like a dream
anyways i had the mechanic rig up the ac for me and so far so good but iíve gotten back into trying to replace this harness cause it also connects to the ac pressure switch, horn, right turn signal, right lights, etc
so fast forward i got another harness from a parts car and i was in the process of putting it in my car annnnnd... i got the horn and low beam light to work but the turn signal , side marker, and iím assuming ac pressure switch isnít coming on. at this point iím pulling my hairs cause i was for sure this was the issue but idk
sorry for the wall of text but if you got this far of reading this i would really appreciate some help... i posted a thread on this issue before but no one replied

Re: PLEASE HELP Passenger side harness issue

I'll kick it around my brain a bit and get back to you this evening.

In the mean time in the DIY section here, the service manual thread, one of the last post has a link to an electric troubleshoot manual if I recall correct. Could be as simple as a ground not fastened inside the inner panel near the door.

Google the grounds for your car and check that they are all fastened to the car. There are several....

on the whole harness it actually comes with the grounds, i’m sure i had it screwed correctly cause like i said, certain lights would work, and i’m actually using the helms, that’s how figured what the harness connects to

thanks for the reply

Re: PLEASE HELP Passenger side harness issue

The electric troubleshoot manual helped me figure out a bunch of stuff.

Schematics can be daunting, but there are tips galore and lots of stuff is interconnected between a box beside the foot area on both sides of the car, the clock (yes the clock), fuse boxes and relays.

By the way I wouldn't wish your issue on an enemy. I fought a rigged swap for two years.

ah mah god, ya feel me... iíve been dealing with this for so long, where the harness connects to on the body is part of an even bigger harness but the thing is itís not behind the dash, itís even further and i have no idea how i would begin to look for it... i really thought this harness was gonna be plug n play but of course that never plays out, i really hope you can shed some light on this
i also want to add that the previous owner rigged the headlights and horn to a relay to keep those working but i guess didnít bother with anything else... even if i was to rig the ac pressure switch, how would i?

Re: PLEASE HELP Passenger side harness issue

There is a control box on both sides of the car. The one on the driver side controls a host of stuff. The one on the passenger a host of other stuff. They also control each other to a certain degree. The Prelude had a lot of engineering that today is normal, but back then was as the name implies.... a "prelude" of things to come later. In essence it was an R&D project in the 1st and 2nd gens that wasn't supposed to sell real well but the 2nd gen sold like crazy.

The guys in lab coats looked at each other and said "Hmmmm, let's try some other stuff"....They did a 3rd gen. It sold well. So they did the 4th and everybody "Oh man thatz just awful looking!" 20 years later it looked pretty normal. Anyway, the 5th was meant to steal back customers from Toyota, Mazda etc. It failed mostly due to the high price tag. But it was full of ideas still in use today.

There was a point in time I remembered which box did what. That was like 3 years ago. I say that to say I'm speculating the previous hatchet job may have bypassed the boxes. With things so complicated internally and who knows what kind of butcher took place I regret to say I do not have an 8 word answer that will suddenly make things begin to spring to life again.

In my car random things would show up. Example: One day the car was hard to start. Like a dead battery. But the battery was fine. For kicks and giggles I moved a ground from the incorrect location on the valve cover to the correct location on the power steering pump bracket. Car sprang to life but the oil light lit. Now the oil light burns when a circuit is completed. ie, it's a hot and lack of pressure causes a sensor to ground which completes the circuit. I removed the sensor. ie no hot to the bulb. Bulb still lit.

Looking for the short I studied the electric trouble shoot manual along with the service manual. I learned that the oil light circuit is tied in with the clock (flashes at X second interval when 0 pressure), tied into the alternator, the box on the driver side, the box on the passenger side and a bunch of other surprising areas including a grounding system built into the plastic dashboard cluster. Yes Honda used a plastic part with a bunch of copper glued to it as part of a ground to the freaking oil light. lol.

Oh, wait until you need to diagnose why your map light quit working. Again the clock is involved, both boxes, door sensors and the ignition system.

Regarding the AC? No clue. And if you did get it to click on/off it's even money that it's out of freon, the dryer has taken a dump or who knows what. That would be an entire project that could end up being pretty expensive.

Wish I could provide a simple solution for ya, but it's potentially too complicated to do that. Especially without knowing what is rigged and what is missing.

It's going to require a bunch of patience and persitence along with a lot of reading and studying the manuals available for download in the service manual thread.

When my door harness fouled it took about 100 hours to source the parts thanks to tight lipped parts counter clerks and Honda technicians. Then about 25 hours to actually fix it correctly and about $200 worth of tools. But by golly I stuck it out and got it done. So will you if you just get stubborn and don't give up.

i really appreciate the response and the motivation, i know something like this wonít be easy but for the life of me i canít figure out how anyone can reach those harness that are even beyond the dash and for what reason... after getting a replacement harness i would think that was the issue, because when i found the one on my car the 12 pin connector was still on it but with essentially all the wires cut so i wouldnít think they wouldíve gone any further, but with molested hondaís you can never know... i really appreciate the response but i guess this is something iím gonna have to figure on my own

Re: PLEASE HELP Passenger side harness issue

Try going to honda parts now.com (all one word) and look at some of the drawings there. Perhaps there'll be a clue as to what you have and what is possibly missing.

Worth a shot, right?

The first link is an auto download. If you clicked it on a mobile device, check your downloads folder and you should have the manual downloaded.
The link worked for me before I pasted it the the previous post.
