Exterior door handle sticks out

Just recently I noticed that the door handle on the passenger door is sticking out about 1/4 of an inch. I saw this on both of the door handles on another 5th gen i was thinking of buying and the guy told me that 5th gens tend to do that. Anyone had this problem before? The door still opens fine, it just looks stupid and is more annoying than anything. quick or cheap fixes?

Edit: solution found here:

Yes, you should be! Lol at peejay's comment, I dunno how many people have that in their sigs!

Hit the handle hinges with a little grease, that should fix it.

Actually there is a spring inside the door handle that needs to be replaced or reconnected. I had the same thing happen to mine. Took me about 45 minutes a side to fix. Have to remove the door panels to get to the door handle. If you take off the door panel and get to the point to remove the handles you will see the spring I am talking about.

Was a PITA, but I got it fixed, just take your time and try not to get too frustrated like I did. I would tell you how to do it, but it would take to long. No one told me what to do, I just had to figure it out myself. Simple to figure out, just took some time to fix.

Later !!!

Yeah I'm glad I read the thread, I do have the same trouble and I will take photos and post a review of the work done. I have recently accepted a second job, so it may take a while before I have the time to get this done.

alright, well today my driver's side handle "snapped" when i opened the door followed by the sound of metal falling inside the door itself. So now both door handles are jacked. DAMN IT! I guess this piece will have to be replaced since I heard it break....When i get the time I will update this thread and hopefully get around to that DIY....

Re: Exterior door handle sticks out

UPDATE: I decided to take my door panel off today and see what exactly was going on with the passenger door today.

Bad News: I found a piece of broken plastic that actually holds the spring in place. Apparently, when the plastic broke, the inside part of the outside of the door still gave the spring some tension. Hope that makes sense...if not it will later.

Good news: I did a little brainstorming, decided how to fix it FOR FREE, took some pics and I will have a How To posted within 1 or 2 days from now. I am going to do the driver's side tomorrow after work and take more pics to make sure everything makes sense. The link for the 'How To' will be added here to when I make it.

omg I am so freakin happy I finally fixed this problem!!!!!

Same thing happened to me just 2 days ago - came out of Lowes and opened my driver side door and "Ping" the spring popped out of place. I will have to check out your DIY to see if it needs to be replaced or just put back into place.
