It revs A LOT faster and the clutch catches like crazy. I'll put it this way, my old roommate's turbo eclipse would pretty much smoke me before by about 3-4 car lengths...now, (consistently) after a few races, we run dead even.

Wow. man. Hats off to you. Just thinking about how much work will be involved when I change out my clutch and flywheel (same exact setup I was planning on, by the way)...It makes my stomach turn...My dad has a friend who used to be a Honda technician and still works on cars. Might get him to do it or at least help me.

not at all...in fact the company that makes it (Fidanza) claims it is a major improvement for the life of your motor and tranny overall. this is due to the lack of force that was needed to spin the older one. It is literally 58% easier for the engine to spin it.

8lbs?

Nice though...

try more like 3k lol!

Poop, when you lower the weight on the flywheel, it takes a lot more to get going compared to a stock flywheel, which should be in the 20lb range. So you have to rev up to 2-3k RPM to get moving from a standstill. But once moving, the revs will fly faster and also de-accelerate a lot faster too...making it feel like you've gained 20hp...but in reality, you're just moving faster due to the lessened load on the flywheel/clutch.

I could never do an 8lb flywheel in NYC...I would go bonkers after 10 mins of stop and go traffic

So, basically, until you fully master the lightened flywheel, you're gonna be hoppin and jerkin all over the place (sounds like my friday night). But seriously, I think I might be going with the 11lb one, since I'll probably REGULARLY make an ass of myself in parking lots..(kinda like i did this morning bottom out on this big ass pothole that jumped out in front of me)...Laame

All that being said, woudn't having a lightened flywheel and whatnot make your car more prone to stalling?

nahh, a lighter flywheel will make the the revs fly up and down much faster, and thats it. if you get an 8lb FW with a stock clutch and pressure plate, its gonna engage just like stock and there will be no jerking/stalling.

you'll only be hopping/jerking if you get a mad stiff clutch like a 6 puck, 3 puck, anything thats unsprung, etc etc.

Since we are in the discussion, I am in the market for a new clutch kit and flywheel. I am pretty sure I am going to get the fidanza 8lb flywheel but does a new clutch kit add to performance at all or can it just handle more power? In the long run of things I am not looking to put down any crazy #'s like nothing over 250whp so do you think a new clutch kit is necessary?

Dude...read this thread you just posted in. HAHA Messin' with ya. But yea. I hear the Centerforce Dual Friction Stage 2 is wonderful. I also hear Clutchmasters makes a good clutch pack.

P.S. It couldnt hurt to replace the clutch while you have the tranny all ripped apart. unless of course you wanna drop the tranny twice? No? Didn't think so. Haha

so if you were to make the decision again would you still get the 8lb or do you think it would be wiser to go with the 11 or 12lb ones

I have the 11lb'r and I have no problems getting started. I can definately tell a difference in performance with it and the CF stage 1 clutch.

Hello, I'm planning on buying the same set up for my 95. I've been looking online but can't find a kit with an alignment tool. Where and for how much did you get your kit from? Did it come with the tool? Oh and also what type of throwout bearing did you put in. A reply would be much appreciated.

That is the Receiver/Dryer Unit that links between the condenser and the evaporator. It is one of the minor components the A/C system.

The centerforce clutch comes with the throwout bearing so i can only assume they are the manufacturer as well. You are correct in that it does not come with the alignment tool. I ended up going to a local mom & pop's transmission repair shop and asking them if they had an extra alignment tool. Just bring them the disc itself and they will most likely have to sort through about 150 of em but eventually they will find ONE that fits. They should let you borrow it for free too. If not, let me know and i will mail you mine.

As far as buying it...I don't really know...I got lucky b/c the guy i bought the car from bought it but didn't want to pay to have it installed; so he gave it to me for free. All I had to do was buy the flywheel and install it myself. I say just checkout centerforce's website. It's part # DF915015 @ http://centerforce.com/ Then just search random websites for the best deal. http://ultrarev.com/home.php?cat=0 usually has some good prices.

My two cents on the 8 lb VS the 11-12 lb flywheels:

I live in the city but everything is still very spread out. I do not have experience on the 11-12 lb wheels but the 8 lb has caused me no problems at all. It drives just as smoothly as before, just a lot more fun. I honestly was surprised at all the comments saying how it is harder to drive under 3k rpm. then again, i don't live in a tightly packed city.

Actually, not all of the retailers bundle this clutch with the correct throwout bearing for it, and even on the Centerforce website, it is listed separately from the clutch kit. You can get the alignment tool separately as well from the Centerforce website for 4 dollars or something like that. I've also heard that using the OEM throwout bearing is actually better than the centerforce one.
