thats a BANGINNN deal!!!!
make sure the t-belt, water pump, and balancer belt have been changed tho. thats an ~$800 job

just for sake of mind, i would bring it to a honda dealer to have them look it over and make sure nothing is fishy with it. i forget whether or not they did mine for free, but even if it costs $50, its worth the peace of mind.

If that thing checks out, definitely scoop it up...

I just paid 6k for a 97 Type SH with 126,000 miles on it in July.

Just go head and look at the blue book bro, that right there is a STEAL if it's in good mechanical condition.

that sounds a little too good to be true if you ask me, unless the body is beat to hell and back, but get it checked out at a honda dealership, it will be worth it, oh and make sure he has a clear title for it and not a salvage title or anything like that because that car could have been wrecked before! and though it might not have any problems now it could have some later on

^^^ absolutely. Check for rust damage, mustiness of the carpet etc... Also, remember that when NOLA flooded, it wasn't fresh water... lake pontitrain (I Know i spelled that wrong but you know what i mean) is salt water. So pop the hood and check for salt water corrosion and what not... and don't forget to order a carfax! can't stress that enough!

in closing, 3k for a 5th gen with under 100,000 miles on it is phenominal... just remember, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Remember that at 80,000 miles the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump are supposed to be replaced, ask if he had those things done, and if he can prove it. because you don't wanna buy a car that the timing belt either already broke on, or is about to break on... remember that hondas have interference motors, and if your timing belt breaks while your motor is running... you have a 90+% chance that you at the very least bent a majority of your valves... only by some sort of miracle will you drive away from that with no valve damage

^^^ editing isn't working... but anyway, here is a link to the national insurance crime bureau. They have a free vin database of cars that are known to have been damaged by all recent hurricane... but remember, even if your car is not on this list, it doesn't mean it wasn't a katrina car. make sure you inspect it well, and DEFINITELY bring it to a mechanic before buying it... and if your car's vin IS on this list... don't even bother with it.

Also, something to watch out for is oil consumption (I dont think anyone mentioned this). these cars consume ridiculous amounts of oil, but too much is something to worry about. Look for smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Anyone like to add anything else?

yeah carfax that soon as possible.

i regret not doing that when i got my car.

for as clean as it is, it IS a salvage title. so selling it is like...not an option. I'll be parting it out when i get a new car.

annnyways, yeah man, get that carfax and if it's straight buy it cuz that's a KILLER deal.

ummm...i dunno...the flood damages worry me, and the thing about salvage is you're never gonna have a good resale value.

the accidents don't bother me, cuz if the bodies straight and there's no hidden structural damage, you should be fine.

take it to the honda dealership and have them do an inspection and see what they think before you buy it.

Damn, 7 floods!? Yeah man, i wouldn't do it. 3k is very cheap for a car with that little ammount of miles on it, but it's a salvage title and it's got 7 floods under its belt... sounds like a money pit to me bro. Be patient, you'll find one you like, it took me like 4 months of searching every single day to find the one i wanted, and even then i had to drive about 100 miles to get it. Also, just my personal opinion, get a 5 speed man, the auto trannies are known to be a pain, plus driving a 5 speed is so much more gratifying in these cars. Just my two cents.

I seriously doubt it has been in 7 floods. It probably was in 1 and reported by seven different agencies or put on the report 7 different times. If it has been in one flood though it still could be alright. Look under the dash at the metal under there look for dirt or corrosion. It makes a difference whether the flood was a fresh water or salt water flood. Saltwater is much much worse. Stay away for sure things could get worse over time too. It could just have dipped the rear in the fresh water with not really any damage maybe a wet seat and some other issues that got the owner to want a new car and push for the salvage title to get insurance . In MN any car that goes to an auto auction and is 7 years old or newer will get a salvage title. I have seen cars with a broken door handle and cars with a a couple of broken windows that got salvage titles for basically no damage. Also have bought a freshwater flood that I drove for a while and had absolutely no problem with it at all. So try to figure out how the flood happened and what was replaced. It could be a good way to get a really good deal probably even better than 3k if you convince the guy hes not going to sell it to anyone else. If you find out the dash was under water or the engine I would have to stay away from that. So find out what exactly happend. Maybe it was only a minor issue. Its up to you to find out though and pretty risky if you dont know what to look for. Good luck and take it to a dealer to look it over. 3k is good though.

Yeah defintely do the carfax on it. I did for the 5th Gens I looked at and had to pass up quite a few, before I found one in good shape and having a good carfax. That is an incredible deal I bought my 97 S model for 5K. Few mods CAI, & exhuast. Plus a new paint job. So yeah its a good deal

iffy, but up to you

the more mods to the car = the less the value -_-
but if it looks okay...idunno, still a risk....and flooding is iffy too....

i got mine at 105k, manual, oem lip + spoiler, tanabe coilovers, CAI intake, for 7k.
thats about as cheap as ludes will ever come in my area

it's salvaged, he's basically got it priced the way it should be. 50% of value, which with the mods brings that down to roughly $6,000-ish . if you plan to hang on to it it's not a bad deal.

yea like slidegood said the salvage thing can mean anything, i bought a salvage lude but i bought it hit, so i know all the damage done to it. it had never been in a accident before, and all i had to do was just replace a fender, door, bumper, and absolutly no frae damage, alot of people make huge deals over a salvage car the car mght just need body replacment parts. salvage cars are usually a steal but the flood thing thats iffy could of flooded to the engine or just bottom of seats. its a risk but i would do it
