Odometer/Trip Odometer problem.

Hey guys, it's been a long time since I been on here, althought not much has changed that I can see... except that twokexlv6coupe's crankshaft ripped in half since the last time I logged on. (That sucks bro, I hope all is well now).

Anyway, here is my new dilemma. I'm pretty confused about it, and I haven't had a chance to start rippin stuff down, it's cold as a witch's titty outside and i just haven't felt up to bangin my knuckles in this weather. So here is the deal.

About a month ago I had to go away on business to Newburgh, New York for about 2 weeks, it was a 169 mile drive (in one direction) and I had to go up and back twice. I was worried about putting over 600 miles on my car in the course of 4 days of driving, but it handled it pretty well actually. All except one thing that is... my odometer and trip odometer both just stopped clocking at 129000 miles... I was on my way up the second time, and I was logging my miles so that i can get my 48.5 cents a mile from work, and i looked down at my trip and noticed it was stuck at 49 miles when i had already been driving for well over an hour at 60-90 mph... So i hit the reset button and reset it back to 0, thinking maybe it just got jammed up for a second and it would start counting again... no luck. So I figured "no biggy, I'll just track my miles by my odometer", i look at the Odometer and see it at 129,000 almost on the dot and take note of it. After about another half hour of driving, i look back down at it to see how far I've gone, but it hasn't budged... This was about a month ago now and my trip is still at 000.0 and my Odo at 129,000.... I'm really dreading having to rip out my dash/instrument cluster, and I'm hoping it can be fixed without doing that. Any ideas? I'm thinking that it is the sensor and not the counters because they both stopped working at the same time and i think that is just too much of a coincedence...

How does the odometer/trip odometer gather data? Is there a wheel speed sensor like the one for ABS systems? If so, where is this sensor located, I'm thinking that this may be the problem. I am not too worried about it for now, but once spring comes along, i need to do my brake pads/rotors so i'd like to have it figured out by then so i can do it all at the same time.

Also, is there a fuse for just the Odo/Trip Odo? I figure that it's not a fuse because the fuse is normally for the whole instrument cluster, and all of my instruments other than the odo/trip are working.

Any help would be awesome guys.

Does the speedo still work?

My guess would be the sender unit from the gearbox has had it. Basically as the driveshaft spins it sends a pulse to the unit and the unit knows that 315.75 pulses means that you've travelled one mile. This is why putting different size wheels and tyres on your car throws the speedometer out.

Speedo does still work. Where is the sender unit physically located in reguards to the tranny. Interior or exterior? I'd really hate to have to rip my **** apart to fix this
