Icon5 Honda Prelude strange engine noise [Audio attached]

Hey Guys,

I have owned a 99 Honda prelude (h22z4) for about 8 months now and absolutely enjoyed the car, lately I have been getting a strange noise from the engine. I understand the car needs a valve adjustment which I will be doing soon. But, there is another noise except the ticking sound. The mechanic had no idea what it was and wanted some ridiculous amount of money just to diagnose it.

I am sure people here must have heard the noise before and was hoping if someone could help.

(Apologies for the horrible camera angles)

Cheers

Other than the valves, looks like your AC was on.

Turn off the AC fan and then check again for the noise.

Hubby said it sounds like one of the pistons smacking the valves

The AC was off as you can see at 0:31 both the fans are stationary.

But that can only mean that the timing is off, I did get a seal replaced for which they had to remove the timing belt but that was 5-6 months ago. Although, there was a whining sound coming from the timing belt after the change it wasn't the same noise. Could it be that the auto tensioner is failing?

Thanks

That sounds like either your timing or balancer belt is on abit too tight, my Lude makes the same sound, don't worry about it.
Did you upgrade your tensioner to a manual one?

No I haven't, I plan on doing it during the next timing belt change.
