Trunk Spring Adjustment

I basically got my car to the way I like it after 5+ years of owning it. The one thing that always bothered me was that the trunk never stayed open due to the weight of the spoiler.

Does anyone have a diagram or picture on how the trunk springs should be adjusted for a trunk with spoiler? There was a post on how to do it, but the pictures are all down.

Thanks.

Re: Trunk Spring Adjustment

I thought it was different part number spring that needs to be installed

Re: Trunk Spring Adjustment

That's what I thought. But from my quick research, the only thing needed is to adjust the springs.

Re: Trunk Spring Adjustment

One of the trunk tensioners needs to be changed out for one meant for a spoiler.

The adjustment can be done, but the tensioners are indeed different and needed for the extra weight.

Re: Trunk Spring Adjustment

Ah, okay. That was one of the conflicting information I found.

So would I need the left spring from the Type SH? That seems to be the only spring with different part numbers between the Base and SH.

Also it looks Majestic Honda has that spring and the spring tool discontinued.

Re: Trunk Spring Adjustment

I've done the swap with and without the spring tool. Trust me when I say if you cannot find a dealer to do this, or someone with the tool, do NOT attempt it. The tool is indeed discontinued, I cannot even order it through the tool program at Honda.

Yes, it's just the one side you need. Typically it has a yellow marking/tag. I just installed another a week or two ago in a friends car.

Re: Trunk Spring Adjustment

I completely agree. I was only going to attempt to do it only if I have the proper tools. I don't want to rip my face off in an attempt to keep my trunk open.

There's a Type SH on my local Craigslist, but I doubt the people that are parting it out know how to remove the spring or even have the tool to remove it.

Re: Trunk Spring Adjustment

If I had some time, I know I could dig one up...

Best bet is to get to a dealership and have it swapped. Although doesn't help without the needed spring.
