'98 power steering high pressure hose issue

Loud strange noise. Rac breakdown viewed. Diagnosed power steering problem. Towed to rac. Diagnosed high pressure hose replacement reqd. Quoted $1,000 gen Honda hose $770 plus labour $230. Called close by mechanic. He felt Enzed could refashion existing hose for about $150 plus bit labour. I drove it to him. Had it 1-1/2 days & reported unable to get hose off due to it going right under the engine & being very "tricky". BUT he showed me the issue with the hose. It's a pin prick in top if hose very accessible & when car running just the slightest seep of fluid. Gave me some power steering fluid to get me home. Unsure what to do next. Can the hose pin prick hole be "bandaged" ? Anyone else had similar issue? Rather not be paying rac $1000. Appreciate anyone's experience please

Re: '98 power steering high pressure hose issue

It's somewhat expected for that hose to fail at some point.

A factory hose is around $215 from Majestic Honda.

There is a 10mm bolt and strap holding the hose to the top of the subframe (above the rack). The pressure sensor would need to be removed, and then the line is just screwed into the rack (12 or 14mm open ended wrench i believe). It's a flared end with a fitting, just like you would see on a hard brake line. It can be a pain your first time, but it's not that bad to do on your own if you're confident in doing it yourself.
