Gen 5 SH engine swap

Ok, I've been researching my self insane with this one. I have a gen 5 sh that needs a motor. I also have a 97-01 DOHC VTEC F20B.

Now for the most part I've heard "don't do it.", "It will lower the torque" etc...

I have the car, I have the motor. I want to put that motor in that car.

I know the swap has been done with the base model gen 5, couldn't find anything on the sh.

So far I have read;
-The motor will drop in, just swap out parts from old motor to f20b and use a obd1 to obd2 wiring jumper harness

-I would need to use an oil filter relocation kit
(only heard this from one person, interested to know if this holds any weight)

I'm sorry if this has been covered, I searched and searched and have not been able to find a definitive answer.

Thanks!

Re: Gen 5 SH engine swap

you need engine with transmission since you cannot use your old one because its from SH

+OBD1 ecu if your F20B didnt came with one

then you also need proper tune for that engine

I was told the oil filter relocation kit would allow the f20b to mount to the sh trans, is it safe to assume that is false? if I had more free time I'd give it a try. Having as little time as I do, I want to find out if that route is worth a shot.

I'll do some more digging on it, I appreciate the answers. If I find out more I'll be sure to post.

Re: Gen 5 SH engine swap

Just gonna get a Trans to fit the f20b and rebuild the sh engine.

Re: Gen 5 SH engine swap

SH trans only works on an SH motor cause it connects to the atts unit which only bolts up to an SH block

Re: Gen 5 SH engine swap

Thanks. Gonna get a Trans to fit the f20b and drop them in the sh. Don't have much time right now so I'm going to slowly rebuild the sh engine.

Re: Gen 5 SH engine swap

I've had the f20b running in my lude for 5 years with no major issues. It is paired to a h23 tranny because I am planning on doing a little boost.

What you will need to swap over from the SH motor is the intake manifold, fuel rail, and vtec solenoid, and Dizzy. I'm sure i'm missing something but that's what I remember swapping from my blown SH motor.

I am still using my stock ECU, with the stock engine harness, and has been fine for all these years.

In the low RPM range you will feel a slight torque difference versus the h22, past 4000 rpm not so much. The f20b likes its high revs and continues to pull all the way to redline.

If money is tight and you want the lude to run, i say do it, you seem to have the aptitude to swap it back if you rebuild the h22 but you are also setting yourself up for other prelude swaps like the JDM h22 or jdm h23vtec by going the f20b route.
