New Member - Hello/Thanks

Hey All,

Just purchased a 2001 satin silver metallic base model with 192k and full Honda dealer service history for $2550. Adult owned, bone stock.

Over the next few weeks I'll be doing standard maintenance before I get crazy.
Cosmetically I want to add the OEM under spoilers, JDM fogs and TSX wheels.
Performance wise I'd like to install intake, full exhaust and tune. I'd like to beat BRZs.

I chose this forum over the others because these threads really helped a lot while I was searching for my car over the last couple months. So I'd like to thank the educated folks here on the site for helping out. This isn't my first Prelude; I owned a '93 when I was a kid.

Re: New Member - Hello/Thanks

you need to mod prelude more heavily than that since BRZ is much lighter car

IHE upgrades wont do much for these engines

Re: New Member - Hello/Thanks

Welcome! As stated, the I/H/E alone won't do a whole lot, but tuning the motor afterward will certainly help. I built up my 4th gen before I had the opportunity to go against a BRZ, so I can't speak to the stock-for-stock power comparisons. But I pretty much romp on them now.

Obviously the I/H/E is a good start. If you're not satisfied with it still after those upgrades, just keep goin' with it til you've outdone yourself and miss how easy it was when it was stock :)

Re: New Member - Hello/Thanks

Yes, its a 5spd.

Looking for exhaust help in THIS tread

I've seen the stock dyno numbers 159hp/138tq vs 173hp/143tq. The lightest 5th gen should only be 170lbs heavier curb weight than the lightest BRZ. Assuming I haven't lost too many ponies over the 190k miles, and assuming the BRZ is fully loaded and heavy, I should beat a stock BRZ. Especially a kid that doesn't know how to drive. Like in a dog fight, it all comes down to who's the better pilot.

There's always NOS. I read these motors can handle a 50 shot without retarding the timing, but that's a LAST resort.
