H22A/ OBD2 swappers- a question

Hi All-
I have this swap, myself. Been going fine for 3 years, BUT....
There is a Thrust Washer on the H22A that is NOT on the H22A4.
The washer goes behind the JDM gears you swap over to USDM gears that trip the CKP/TDC sensors mounted on the oil pump of the OBD2/US version.
I left the washer off figuring the stator to trip one of the sensors took it's place. However, after 3 years the US cover I used is all torn up from the crank pulley- ergo some sort of spacer is needed to get clearance between the the cover and the pulley.
Question is, should the spacer be where the original Thrust Washer was-behind the gears- or on top of the gears?
Have not seen this mentioned in any swap notes I've read, so I put it out there.

When your using the USDM oil pump you do not use any washers. See here:

My lower timing cover also rubbed the crank pulley after the swap initially but it was because the cover was not all the way sucked in towards the block. One of the rubber washers that helps hold the timing cover on was half way stuck in one of the holes preventing it from being all the way flush.

The rubber washer in question is the lowest part in this picture, just below the "E-13".
