Clunking/popping front end :(
Ive been reading about this in other threads but would like to be more specific to my situation. When moving at a slow speed and turning like going up my drive way, i hear the popping/ clunking sound multiple times. Turning right and left. Its not a clicking sound. I also hear a whirring sound while im driving straight mistly in the 20-50 mph range. Put the car on stands, cv boots looked fine, some bushings had minor tears and ball joints looked alright. Turned the steering wheel both ways with no load and no clunking. Put the stands under the arms to create some load and still no clicking. So only while in motion even if its going literally 1-5 mph it happens. What do you guys think cv axle or wheel bearing? Any insight appreciated.

engine mounts / drive shafts / wheel bearings

Re: Clunking/popping front end :(
Powerslave,
I went through this with my son. We had changed practically everything in the front suspension. Sway bar end links are the usual cause of popping and clunking. You can actually remove the sway bar and links and drive it for a little while to see if that causes your problem. We actually found the upper control arm attaching bolts were loose and allowed the control arms to bang around. Not sure what may be causing your whirring sound, could be wheel bearings. |

Re: Clunking/popping front end :(
check the tie rods and also check the bolts for the front cross member to see if they came loose

Re: Clunking/popping front end :(
Shocks and springs are fine they are brand new and nothing is loose nor does it make noise going over bumps. I will have to jack it up tonight and triple check everything. Would really like to pin point what is causing all this

Re: Clunking/popping front end :(
i ended up taking a look and a bunch of my bushings were torn and ball joints were taking a crap. i got the ES master kit and im getting new ball joints. Does anybody know of a good company to get the sway bar end links from? was taking a look at some mevotechs and looks like the bushings on them were poly.
