Should I buy this prelude?

A friend at work is selling a 97 SH with 190k miles for $500.
It is red but very faded with a dent in the front quarter panel. He smokes in the car and the engine is tired. He said the engine has a knock and there is a good amount of oil in the intake.

Does this car sound worth saving? I'm familiar with hondas because I had a G2 integra as a young adult and could fix about anything on it. If I was single I would buy it but I have to convince the wife I would get my money out of it or that it would be a good first car for our son and honestly I don't know the answer to those questions.

If you want a bit of a project to work on together with your son and have the time to mess with it then it could be fun. You can get used engines for pretty cheap. I wouldn't if you don't feel like spending a decent amount of time on it though... when you fix one thing it leads to the next problem.
