Didn't feel VTEC activate

I test drove a 2001 base Prelude, and I didn't feel VTEC engage at all, and I took it way past 4200 rpm.

Maybe it did engage, I just didn't feel it?

If VTEC fails to engage, will it feel like the car loses power at high RPMs?

I didn't feel any loss of power, but I didn't feel anything kick in either.

I could feel that in my 99, but it's an SH, and it has a red top JDM motor. This one that I test drove just has the regular black valve cover so it's not as powerful.

Re: Didn't feel VTEC activate

was that car warmed? vtec doesnt engage until engine is warm enough.
is there oil in engine? vtec uses oir pressure so if your oil level is too low it cannot engage or if oil pressure sensor is faulty or vtec solenoid is clogged or doesnt work

Re: Didn't feel VTEC activate

Saying something has a Jdm motor because it has a red valve cover is like totaling a car because it has a dented fender and door....

Re: Didn't feel VTEC activate

Is it a stock base model?

My original motor didn't "kick in" and hell my H22A Euro R in the car now doesn't "kick in" because it's tuned right. You should hear a difference if you have IHE mods done, it gets noticeably louder. ;)
