Should i get a Prelude SH or a Base?

Hi there, I'm new to the prelude scene, but not the Honda scene. Long story short, My civic died about 2 months ago. In the spring I'm looking to buy a prelude. My question is, i have a 5k budget and SHs here sell around 5k for a nice one, or should i buy a 4k nice base prelude and put the money towards mods or fixing the problems? Thanks

-DJChaserz

If you want less frills please, please, please get a base model. The SH is something I would only recommend if you don't mind fiddling with the ATTS system. It can become quite the annoyance. Also if you plan on working on the car or modifying it yourself the ATTS system can make access a complete bitch in some cases, that on the base model would be cake.

If i can't find anything to my liking, ill probably try to find a older v6 manual coupe accord, should be fun. Do you know anything about the J Series?

I was looking at a few RSXs Type S, since their 4-5k. I just dread the 2nd and 3rd gear problem. And the "newer" Civic Si (2006-2010) is just way to expensive for me. Not sure if i want the EP3. Thats also around 4-5k.... Just dont like that shifter lol.

Yeah, Thats why i was more bias towards the base. Feel like even to fix the ATTS it would be a bitch, plus i wouldnt be taking corners at 80MPH everwhere lolz.

Re: Should i get a Prelude SH or a Base?

J-series aren't meant for fun. Atleast they won't be as fun as a DOHC for banger, financially.

My prelude is my first car, about to go on my third year.

What I was looking for when I was going to buy my first car:

-I have to fully be able to afford it myself without going broke. I went broke, but it wasn't because of my car.
-Manual
-DOHC
-reliable
-JDM/or something that you won't see everyday driving around town (or at least in my town)

Re: Should i get a Prelude SH or a Base?

base WITHOUT 4ws.

with SH there is more things that can give you trouble and if you someday feel that you need more power you can upgrade base more easily (no ATTS and ecu hold you down)

(Minion voice) "Uh, no".
The Prelude was a different breed of Honda. It was like crossing a Kentucky thoroughbred with a Texas mustang.
Fast out the gate and in it for the duration.

If you want a true performer from the factory the SH was the car that won car of the year under $30k all 5 years it was made. But...
If you want to do your own style the base is a better platform for a Lego system.

It's the one Honda that when setting at a red light and some crooked hat goofball pulls up in a Teggy he gives the thumbs up. The guy in the Vette who pulls up just stares straight ahead hoping you don't race him.
The guy in the auto parts store quips "man I don't dig on Hondas but I want whatever that one is you drove up in."

Yup a Honda is a Honda, but a Prelude is a car that wears an H badge that indicates "Mr. Soichiro Honda was here."

Very well said. I agree completely. The Prelude is a different kind of Honda.

Just to clarify, i was stating that i respect all Hondas in one way or another.

I'm in the same camp....I even bought a Honda mower last year... aaaaaand it's already needing repairs. lol, but at least the CEL isn't on. lol. (It doesn't have a CEL)

Nah seriously, when I was a lad we were impressed with the dog house looking and sized CVCC cars. They were like lawn tractors with a heater, were pretty zippy and a hoot to drive. That tradition remains to this day regardless of model.
