Icon5 Should I get a stock 01 Prelude or a modified 99 Prelude?

After someone backed into my car as I explained in another thread, I'm in the market for another Prelude.

Today I test drove an 01 base Prelude that is all stock with 144k miles on it. Only things wrong with it are a missing turn signal light, rear left light doesn't come on, and the passenger side door lock doesn't work. Engine bay looks clean and stock.

The ad and carfax says it's a one-owner car, but the guy who's selling it isn't the owner. He said he bought it from the original owner several months ago for his son, but is selling it because his son wants an automatic. Said he didn't do the paperwork for the DMV because he didn't want to pay fees. I'm not sure what to make of all that, but I did catch him lying about something else, so that could also be some made-up story. He wants $4300 for the Prelude and the last time it was smogged was about 6 months ago. However records show that it has never failed smog.

The other car I'm interested in is a 99 base Prelude with 147k miles that has some modifications and work done on it that I like. Here's a list

Quote:
Tein adjustable coilovers
Stage 2 clutch
Nrg steering wheel set up with detatchable steering wheel
Custon catback exhaust
Lip kit all around car
XXR 527 17" wheels
Retrofit HID headlights with halos
New front camber kits installed this summer of 2016
New radiator and head gasket installed summer of 2015 with receipt in hand
Tires with about 1000 miles on them
Carfax shows that he's the 8th owner. He's asking $4000 for this and it just passed smog.

Says he's selling it because he needs money for college. The Prelude that I previously bought I got from a college student and lots of problems surfaced over the 7 months that I've owned it.

Any opinions on any of this? Which one should I get?

cannot say that other one is "modified" - most of all its still stock

but when both of them are used - hard to say anything (its always small gamble with used cars). Id probably get that "modified" one - it saves you money when you dont need to get coilovers there and lipkit is always +
