Honda Prelude Timing Belt Replacement with H23 Tensioner

Hey guys,

So I am heading down to the lower part of my state to hopefully buy a 5th gen Prelude and while it had it timing belt changed that was 65k miles ago and 11 years and as my last Prelude went because of one I will be replacing that in the first few months of owning it. As I want to do everything correctly and have less to worry about I will be doing the H23 manual timing belt tensioner conversion. I found a guide here

HOW TO: H22 Auto Tensioner to H23 Manual Tensioner Conversion - Honda Prelude Forum : Honda Prelude Forums

Also I have already gone to my local Honda dealership and asked for a parts list so I can buy them of an online source. This is what I was given for a basic timing belt change.

19200-P13-003 Water Pump (Yamada)
38920-P0F-J01 Belt, Compressor (Bando)
91213-PR3-004 x2 Oil Seal (29X43X8) (Arai)
91233-PT0-003 Oil Seal (27X40X8) (Nok)
13405-PT0-004 Belt, Balancer Timing (Unitta)
14400-P13-014 Belt, Timing (155Yu24 A-555)
56992-PDE-505 Belt, P.S. Pump
91212-P0A-004 Oil Seal (40X52X7) (Arai)

Auto adjuster gone

And this is the list for the tensioner conversion as found inside of the above link.
13404-PT0-004 - ADJUSTER COMP., BALANCER BELT
13415-PT0-000 - BRACKET, BALANCER BELT ADJUSTER
14510-PT0-004 - ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT
14516-PT2-000 - SPRING COMP., TIMING BELT ADJUSTER
14521-P14-A00 - PLATE, ADJUSTER
90014-P14-A00 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER BASE
90015-PT0-000 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER SPRING
90016-PT0-000 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER
90140-P14-A00 - WASHER, PLAIN (11MM)

So I guess I truly just need to know which of these I will be needing to do the conversion/timing belt change between the two lists. If its all of them great, if there are parts I should use in place of others great I'll find them, if I shouldn't trust the write up great that's well needed info. The timing belt job doesn't worry me I just want to have everything I need when I get started to have the manual tensioner added at the same time.

Thanks in advance,

A Mere Enthusiast

Re: Honda Prelude Timing Belt Replacement with H23 Tensioner

Well that's solved. Have you done this to yours? its just change out and tension correct. In the video he removed the balance shaft as well but with just the tensioner I would leave that as well correct?

Re: Honda Prelude Timing Belt Replacement with H23 Tensioner

i replaced mine with the automatic tensioner 14520-P13-013, paid $180 for the part and have 30, 000 kilometres on it, hoping for another 70, 000 kms :)

i've heard good things about the k one
also heard good things about the manual one too but also heard it can be a little noisy

...that's all i got lol

Re: Honda Prelude Timing Belt Replacement with H23 Tensioner

Yeah can't be to terribly mad about it if he received what he was asking for it. 3 and half hours in to my trip was kind of a kick in the knockers though.

I still managed to test drive one and it was not anything like I was hoping to buy in the other one. It was rusted, door panels cut up, cracks dents, high miles. Just not what I was looking for. So I just need to keep searching for what I am.
