I get the same rpm's at that speed. In 5th gear, every extra 10mph is another 500rpm's or so.

3k or so is fine, try lowering your speed a tad to 65.. also make sure you replace your air filter on time, and use good gas that should help with the gas mileage.

yeah but the thing is when you boost your gas mileage will be better if you stay outta boost range cause it oxidizes your air/fuel mixture more so stay outta boost range and youll get more mpg

i was out last night on the 210, which is generally a pretty straight freeway with some really long turns so you never really have to slow down and i was doing about a 140, i didn't check my rpm's but when i was doing about 110 i think i was at like 5k?? it was cracking me up because this dude in a brand new range rover saw that i was going fast and i guess though he'd show me and drove side by side to about 100 then at around 110 he stayed back then caught up and passed me a bit but saw that i just kept climbing and climbing and he just said screw it lol it was a really nice drive because it was him and i with like maybe 2 other cars on the freeway after he left me it was sooooo dark and nice looking oooh wish id'a recorded it but yeah i had a full tank of gas and i think that lil run cost me about 1/4 of the tank i drove like that for about 15 miles

get ngk iridium spark plugs, change the air filter and you can even try an ignition box setup, it might give you better gas mileage, don't go with the 10mm, you don't need that its way too much over kill 8.8 would be fine, the cap and rotor i would recommend though, bad spark and spark transfer affections detonation and if you're not detonating correctly you're wasting gas

I shift at around 3k most of the time, otherwise my car boggles and i can't stand that humping back and forth crap every shift, my friends got this 91 civic that he drives like a nut, always shifting really high and every time the clutch grabs and releases you think the car is going to split in half, i kid you know, it sounds so loud lol

Yeah my 5th gen isn't that great on gas either but it is a whole .2 L bigger than my 3rd gen plus V-Tech. I'm doing the same plugs wires cap and rotor, and new filter. Should fix some of the mileage loss.

An SH averaged only 19.4 mpg, though a base car with automatic got a more appealing 23.2 mpg. Premium fuel is mandatory either way.

The above was copied and pasted from how stuff works.com

So your doing pretty good anyway you look at it. Especially if you drive mostly in the city.
