tweeter distortion help pls

Hello,

i have a 98 prelude and i just put in the tweeters mids and high speakers of a 3 piece audiobahn component system, i left the base speaker out because i havent installed the setup correctly yet....my issue is this

I've connected everything (the tweeters and mids and high speakers) to the stock wires in my prelude...the speakers sound great but the tweeters make a distortion noise when ever i turn up the volume...I did it super mickey and just twisted the wires onto the "prongs" or "posts" that are on the tweeters( theres 2 posts) because i just wanted sound for now until i do the setup correctly...
Does anyone have any idea as to what is causing the distortion? I listen to MP3 files through my IPOD and alpine head unit- my guess is that since i only twisted the wires on they're causing a distortion?- or would a wire problem suggest complete sound cut off?

Thanks for the help guys =D

PS i have a 5/500 JL amp, 10" JL woofer stocks in the back and the audio bahn competition 3 way component speaker system with cross overs- do you just have any suggestions on setup as far as wire gauges, amp settings, equalizer(do i even need one) and capacitor( do i need one?) Thx!
