Paint chip, Crack what can be done?

Hi, yesterday a family member drove my prelude and somehow managed to scratched the car. There's now a Crack in the paint on the body. My question is will it start to rust? What's the best way to go about this? FYI, I have future plans for plasti dipping, but I doubt that would solve the problem?

Re: Paint chip, Crack what can be done?

Damn, that almost looks kinda like a protrusion from the inside, like the paint split away from itself. The whole are has to be sanded down and paint matched, looks like bare metal between the cracks so I'm not sure if it's best to pick at it until theres an edge or sand it down. Picking at it may be the best or worst thing to do. Maybe someone else will chime in. The one on the bumper wont rust

The quarter panel will rust - as mentioned, the only proper way is to sand and paint. The paint will break away completely as moisture builds up from the other side.

Re: Paint chip, Crack what can be done?

Paint cracked on my hood. I keep good polish/wax on it to keep mother nature and father time away.

Consider squishing some vaseline in the crack. Water reppelent, but will also attract dirt so ya gotta scrub it out with a toothbrush from time to time and re-apply.

If it begins to bubble, remove the loose stuff, spray Locktite rust convertor to the area a couple times of year, or until you can do a proper repair.

Honda galvanized several rust prone areas in later Preludes. At times the paint just flat out un-bonds from that coating in time. Hopefully that's your issue and it isn't rusting from the inside. Time will tell. Bubbles will develop if it's rust.

That second photo looks like a rust bubble is being born.

Second one needs a lil tlc, my lude has the infamous rust on the rear quarters. I tried sanding it down and painting it but the rust kinda comes back, I may mess with it in the spring time again

^^ like the cancer it is, you have to get it all.

Until then try that Locktite stuff. It works.

Re: Paint chip, Crack what can be done?

I cannot stress enough how badly everyone needs to keep the quarter area clean and sealed. It is the leading cause to moisture getting between the metal and causing the "quarter cancer"

not OP's issue - but since it was brought up, it's the part of the inner rear wheel well where the quarter and wheel well metal meets.

Try fixing it with Dr. ColorChip Automotive Paint Chip Repair Kit. You can order it online.
