My new $200 Prelude
Hey guys,
So I bought a 1997 manual base model prelude with 150,000 miles on it for $200. Pretty cool price hey lol, I'm going to post some pics later when I head to my buddies place, it is parked at my buddies not mine. Anyways so the cars ignition is smashed out, the PO said that thiefs tried to steal the car but his neighbor approached us after the sale when the PO went inside his home and we were waiting for the tow truck and told us that he tried hammering the ignition because the car wouldn't start one morning...The PO definitely seemed like a crackhead, he just wanted cash and afterwards asked me where he could buy drugs since he was new to the city. I couldn't turn down a prelude for $200 though! Anyways so the ignition is smashed out so its going to need a new ignition system. He didn't provide us with a red learning key so I'm guessing I'm going to need a whole new ECU and immobilizer unit. That being said I found one on eBay that comes with everything but a red learning key, is that all I'll need or will I need the red learning key for these parts to work after installing them into a new vehicle? The set comes with a master key already so as long as that one is used I'm thinking I'm fine without the red learning key, let me know what you guys think. I promise pics of the car and the ignition will be up later today! Thanks guys!

Re: My new $200 Prelude
Nevermind the ECU I found was for an auto so can't use that. Still that being said if I find a ECU with the ignition switch and everything but with only a master key and not a red learning key is that sufficient? Thank you.

Re: My new $200 Prelude
Thank you! I haven't heard of them but I'll check them out thanks for letting me know. I just don't want to pay $1800 for a new ECU and $600 for a new ignition system and new keys from Honda lol.

Re: My new $200 Prelude
I'm fairly certain the auto Ecu can be modified for 5spd use

Re: My new $200 Prelude
That's a crazy deal, I'd jump on that every time. The part-outs on this site are the best way to start. If you can't find anything there the next best option is Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market It allows you to search junkyards and shows you who has the parts you need. Hopefully you'll be able to get everything for $200 or less. Good luck!
