PSJB Build Journal
Figured I'd start a build journal to keep track of my progress (since I'm actually making some now) and get some feedback along the way.
i started off with a car - Red 2000 Honda Prelude ![]() then i turned around and bought a JDM H22A + transmission ![]() ![]() I stripped it down and then my buddy had another H22A4 that blew, so I got to strip that down for parts too! The pay dirt from the breakdown got me new Eagle Rods and JE pistons @ 9:1 compression. ![]() So since I got free parts for a boost build, I when for boost and bought Darton wet sleeves! ![]() Waiting for a good time to send the beast to the shop, I started on a few other things... Like my now infamous Nexus 7 head-unit replacement which I am still improving (not that there's anything wrong with it) Nexus 7 head unit replacement I got new axels and a set of Megan coil-overs and even some new tires... then I spun a bearing in the H22A4. ![]() So there was no better time to start the build, I sent my parts and broken down H22A over to Reed Chapman at TRC Performance and he hooked me up with a solid motor! ![]() ![]() Got a KS Tuned Balance shaft eliminator kit and a new Moroso oil pan. I am currently working on pulling the old motor to get the new one in to hopefully have the car ready for Honda Day in August. This is my adventure so far, wanted to share, hope you liked it, and I will be back with more updates as I am totally in Prelude mode right now! lol ![]()

Re: PSJB Build Journal
No better time to start than at a time when you need to start over anyway. Can't wait to see what comes of this.

Re: PSJB Build Journal
Something OEM still, i didint put them on but the axles were replaced when the coil-overs were put on... which was like <300 miles before i blew the motor up.
But really theres nothing special, power wise, about the motor right now anyways... its just sleeved.

Advice: Don't waste your time with Honda Day.
Look for more diverse shows or Prelude specific meets. Only because HD brings the wrong crowd... |

Re: PSJB Build Journal
Ok, so i have been getting some things done but not posting sadly...
Where I am stuck right now, is what to do about an oil cooler... After market would cool it too much, since im not boosted yet. The stock one i do have came off the blown motor. For me to get a new OEM one is well, expensive... Also, looks like i need the stock one for a plate too? ![]() Any suggestions?

Re: PSJB Build Journal
if anybody could help with this oil cooler situation, it would be much appreciated... I am so stuck with it right now.
Single handily toughest part about this build so far because i find so little information.

Re: PSJB Build Journal
Honestly, unless you are tracking the car, factory is fine.
Otherwise, yeah the sandwich plate shown with two lines coming from it to the cooler is one option. But ibdont see it being very effective since there is no pump to direct the flow through the cooler, you would be relying on pressure which never seemed right to me. The aftermarket coolers is not something I'm experienced in, just opinion. |

Re: PSJB Build Journal
ok so,
- I bought a used oil cooler from a "good running" lude on ebay, got that on - Got the thermostat done - Got my transmission mostly clean - My new Innovative mounts are on the way - Getting a new vtec gasket - I got the intake done a while ago, but never posted it ![]() so i am a heartbeat away from finally getting this mofo back in so my bae can hit the streets again. <3

Re: PSJB Build Journal
so i was buttoning stuff up to drop the motor in this week and this happened while putting my lower cover on
![]() ![]() the cover pulled to 1 side and i drove the bolt off just enough to blow the corner out. its not a show stopper and ill be damned if im going to start over for it. I hit it with some JB weld and waiting to revisit it in the morning. This doesnt really give me a lot of hope it will work tho: http://www.hondatwins.net/forums/62-...tml#post281602 I have so far managed to pinch 2 bolts, snap 1, and blow this out... >_< Im working on removing the evap system now and pending this 1 cover mount, this thing should still be getting dropped back in this week! Im pumped, will have more soon! ![]()

Re: PSJB Build Journal
Ah crap.. Aluminum blocks have their downside, my iron block has different downsides... Those bolts should really be the same hardness or softer than the aluminum.. It's just a timing cover, like u said "no show stopper." good luck with it tho, should be fine, would be nice if a lock washer could be added to it, but that bolt doesn't look like it wants to play nice with others..

Re: PSJB Build Journal
JB weld didnt work, but i guess i already knew that... Im checking for a hose clamp or a piece of pipe i can cut and hold around it. it could deff be a worse spot, but... the timing is just awful.

Re: PSJB Build Journal
O-M-G I had it!
I f!@#$ing had and broke it again... I have come to the conclusion that this mount can suck a fat one. But, since its not broken any more... its just not there. Im not going to worry about it anymore. Maybe i can find a bracket to pull it together later but idc anymore, moving on. ![]() ![]()

Re: PSJB Build Journal
Can i get some feedback on an ECU?
I am on a p13 OBD2 now with no knock sensor; no evap; no iab and from what I gather already that puts me at on a p28 but i also understand they come in OBD1&2? If im shooting for Hondata s300 (or so) does a p06 work too?

Re: PSJB Build Journal
Nice job man! I could start for you a list of all the small, stupid things that caused my build to drag on. Just know you're not alone there.
I'm not too sure about the ECU situation you have going on. I know a popular option is converting to OBD1 for the p28 or the p72. I'm interested to know if the p06 is capable of doing what you want it to do.

Re: PSJB Build Journal
Man, great build thread. I'm going through a similar thing as well. What was suppose to be a quick and dirty swap came out to be more of a pain then anything else for me. I started seeing rust here and there and just decided **** it, I'm rebuilding this engine. Surface rust or not I'm trying to get a decent looking engine.
