HELP !!

Hi everyone
My name is Dan and I hope some one might be able to help me. Im helping out my daughters boyfriend and well he just went active duty and is at Ft. Bragg NC. Anyway some little punk a** kids tried to steal his prelude which is a 97 SH They broke out the ignition cylinder and stole his radio. They couldn't get the car started because of the immobilizer ? Well when they broke out the key cylinder they also broke were the immobilizer plug goes in. So im kinda stuck i was able to get the lock cylinder out but i cant find a replacement for it i called my locale Honda dealer and this part has been discontinued. So basically I guess im asking does anyone have a 97-2001 parts car with the ignition intact including the key and immobilizer thing. or even any suggestions on where to look? Please help with him being at Ft Bragg and his car in my garage in Colorado Im stuck

Thank you
Dan

Re: HELP !!

Unfortunately, your options are slim for this kind of issue but i'll take a swing at it;

1: (long and expensive process) Find a partout/junkyard car that contains the parts you're in search of - and also be sure that it comes with a RED KEY and a standard master key. The red key is what programs the immobilizer and keys - so it's important. Then have it all installed and hope one of your local Honda dealerships posses the proper knowledge/tools to reprogram everything. This would result in needing a different key for the ignition vs doors... for a short time at least. The issue with this method, is i'm not sure if there is anything else required for it to work.... I recall reading about needing the ecu from said car but it's been awhile... so lean towards option 2 unless you intend to do some further research.

2: (best bet - find a good smith first) Find a partout/junkyard car - get specifically what you need (sounds like just the key cylinder mess) and see if a locksmith can re-arrange the tumblers to accept the original key.

3:

Best of luck, it's never a fun experience.
Try contacting member Prelude1897 (his name is Brian) he is always parting out 5th gens and may be able to help you.

Re: HELP !!

Oh man I thought you were in NC too.

Call a locksmith tomorrow during normal business hours. They can tell ya what's what.

Can't speak for others, but I try not to get too specific about imobilizer stuff on forums. Too many would be thieves may gain enough info to turn their sites on imobilized cars armed with info obtained here
