engine sounds a lot different after a valve job.

So after I get my car back from a valve job, I notice that the entire car sounds different. The engine sounds a lot different at idle and at low speeds. the cars runs like new, however but it never sounded this way before I took it to the shop. Any thoughts? Here's is a complete list of what the shop did to the car: thermostat, knock sensor, timming belt hydraulic tensioner, new head gasket/complete cylinder head seals replaced, new head bolts, oil change, coolant change, and a complete head valve job rebuild from machine shop. 98 prelude sh

No, it's a bit louder at idle and it whistles at idle and at very low speeds, when it's accelerating it sounds normal. it's hard to describe but it never sounded that way and I haven't heard a Honda that sounds like it. I'll try to post a video.

The whistle is the new timing belt, it's gonna do that for a while. Mine did the same, to be honest it might be the balance belt to, does it sound like a supercharger at idle?

New belts do not make noise.

Go easy on it if you must drive, get it back asap

Re: engine sounds a lot different after a valve job.

Maybe some do...

But the one we did in September was noiseless.
Maybe it varies. But definitely have the shop take a peak to ensure the belt is still on correctly, as in isn't walking.

What did your noise end up being Wings? I remember you had a noise back when you did yours.

You tube. Be sure to set it so everybody can see it.

I think it is set to private unless you change that setting.

Balance belt tensioner was bad, and over tensioned.

Re: engine sounds a lot different after a valve job.

So you can see the video? yeah it has like a weird whistle/ supercharged / airplane sound at a warm idle and acceleration but it runs like a beast. I just hope it's something that's not on Rigth cus like I said, I haven't heard a prelude let alone a Honda sound like this. it's going back Monday morning anyway for a follow up check, like the mechanic told me. He said drive it for a some miles then bring the car back so they can recheck the work and stuff

I have the same noise, it appeared right after my timing belt service was done back in May 2011, only happens at idle/car has reached operating temperature. I swapped out my Auto tensioner with a Manual one when I did my timing belt service.

I would first check what wing8806 mentioned, it's a very common problem and the noise won't go away.

"Balance belt tensioner was bad, and over tensioned."

Here's a few more video's I bookmarked awhile ago:
