PGM-FI RELAY or IGNITION REPLACEMENT?

Took the cover off my 2000 SH to start up, due to being stored away for the winter months. It started up right away then died within seconds. It will turn over but wont start. It started doing that last summer, eventually it starts after sometimes minutes of cranking. AS WELL as sometimes stalling while driving. Thinking it might be a PGM relay or ignition which i dont ever believe was replaced. Any ideas? ALSO sometimes when i hit VTEC the rpm's go crazy (obviously not as it should) any help would be awesome

For the stalling problem, check to see if the recall was done to your car. It sounds like that could be the problem.

Re: PGM-FI RELAY or IGNITION REPLACEMENT?

Check these things in this order:

Are you certain nothing crawled up into your exhaust pipe to live for the winter?
It happens.

How old is your fuel?

Have you tried a spritz of starting fluid?

Are you certain you have spark, fuel to the cylinders, air to the throttle body?

Timing ok?

Last but not least, the relay could be your issue. You said it was beginning to plague you with issues before storing it.

Re: PGM-FI RELAY or IGNITION REPLACEMENT?

Before winter i filled it with premium Grade fuel and added a bottle of fuel treatment to prevent the gas from going bad. Im confident that there is spark, however i believe the plugs may have been fouled out while trying to start it over and over yesterday. Could a bad vtec sylonoid be the problem of my vtec surging crazy every once and a while?

If your getting fuel to the motor its not the relay. Sounds like a spark or old fuel.

Re: PGM-FI RELAY or IGNITION REPLACEMENT?

If the exhaust is blocked, it'll start, run a bit, quit and refuse to start.

Now speaking of that the exhaust is a water tight system. So if there's a buncha condensation in it, that'll add huge amounts of back pressure and add to the hard to start symptom.

But it sounds like what's going on began before you put the car away.

Buy a harbor freight compression tester. That'll help diagnose.
