Window dragged up and down and wouldn't seal

I had the drivers side motor/regulator replaced at the dealer. The window went up and down slower, seemed to judder back and forth as it went up especially and never fully went all the way up and sealed without being cocked.
Saw a site that said to use 3M silicone grease in the rubber channel the window glides in whenever replacing the rubbers or you have to remove your window as all kinds of crap filters down it--especially in the rust belt.
Well 3M silicone grease is $33 for a half pint--screw that. Go to Lowes and go to the plumbing section and you can buy a small amount in another brand and it's 3 bucks.
Went to auto parts store and got a couple of the thin flat stainless bars that stiffen up certain wiper blades and can be removed. They were free as they throw them out with the old blades. I bent a hook in one end with needlenose pliers, cut just the corner off a shop rag and put it through the partial loop I had made in the end of the stainless bar. Went to the vise and clamped it all the way shut on the piece of rag, rolled the rag in the grease and ran it up and down inside the window track front and as far as I could in the back. I did this twice and even put a small amount an ran it all the way up the window channel and across the top. I did this twice and the window flies up and down and seals perfectly. NO chatter and the window goes up and down perfectly straight. It completely stopped the drag at the front of the window. So far, one month after and it's still perfect. Beats taking the door panel off.

Re: Window dragged up and down and wouldn't seal

Good info! Thanks.

Even if your windows work fine why not prevent the impending issues, right?

Pretty much got flamed for driving like a jackass and was told to slow down. And I'll be damned, slowing down fixed it.
