passenger window not working

My passenger window took a crap on me today. It was fixed by honda a couple years ago, but always rolled up slower than the driver side like the motor wasn't as strong or something. They replaced a lot of parts to get it working it was like 600 bucks. Anyway, there is no noice like a motor is trying to move the window at all. Just dead silence when you try to roll it down from either switch. The driver side still works fine. Is it the motor? If so, how much of a pain is it to replace.
Thanks

Well, it could be that the gears are broken(they're usually made out of plastic) i doubt its electrical- its not likely that you'll have a short or that the wiring will become faulty- theres nothing stressing it or anything there that'll cause it to tear or break or anything like that- but if you've got no noise from the motor then the motor is dead....they got you good for those 600 bucks man..... all you'd need to do is take off the door panel, make sure you take out the screws, pop the plastic rivets or plugs, then reach in once its loose and out and unplug the wiring to the electronics like your door lock actuator, your window control button, and then make sure you pop out the metal piece that goes to your door handle that opens your door when you pull the handle...once this is done you should be able to reach inside of the window and work on that...i have not done it in a prelude, i'm not sure what year yours is but i did do it in my mustang, replaced the gears, the plastic guide that goes around the circular post that runs vertically inside your door (its used to guide the window up and down as the motor rolls it up or down) and it was pretty easy....i did not have to take out the window, don't know if you will or not =\ but yeah...shouldn't be too big of a deal

Sounds like your window regulator is kaput...that or your switch is dead.

You can get a used one(regulator) on ebay(search they have them) or from someone parting out their Lude here.

Changing it is not that difficult, removing the door and NOT losing any plastic rivets that fly/pop out is lol...just like Brute says, be careful. Take a gander at the online manual for reference. I changed 3 window regulators on various Hondas and each time, i lose at least 1 plastic rivet

Yeah, I had called honda and asked what they had done back when they fixed it. He said they replaced the channel and regulator. I'm thinking its the motor because it was slower from the beginning than the driver side and got perpetually worse and worse until it finally crapped. If I had a multimeter I would check for power but I think I'm going to go ahead and change the motor.

Thanks

im a tech and usually if your window goes up slow the run rubber is getting jammed (what the glass slides up) try some white lithium grease as a temp fix/ diag aid

Yeah, I'm sure it needed to be greased at the time, but Its too late now, it doesn't even try to make a noise like the motor is working. I'm sure its done.

You know whats funny, I think you guys might be exactly right. I was putting in a dash kit the day before this happened and I remember constantly turning a switch that said "on" on it. I bet you a million bucks that locks the passenger window. I'm too lazy to check tonight, but I'm pretty sure. Thanks guys, I'm an idiot. You saved me a lot of time, money and hassle. I will let you know tommorow.

That was it alright, what an idiot. Anyways, thanks guys for the help, I could have really wasted some time with that. It still goes up at about half the speed as the driver side, and ideas.

Thanks again.

Even by itself, I'm familiar it will go even slower when pushing both at a time, this is really noticable though even by itself. It cam back from honda slow and has gotten worse and worse over the next year or so.

Hey Hjluder, I used to have a RX7 that did this very same thing. If you have a little bit of electronic knowledge you can take apart your window switch. You will see probably two copper contacts and they will probably have alot of blackish burnt sut on them, if you can take them out (remember how they go back in) then take some fine grit sandpaper or clean them with q tips and rubbing alcohol and put them back in. It an easy fix, plus saves you alot of money.

Seems you have the window working again but too slow? I would say to try the grease like mentioned before. I guess they replaced the track too? Maybe it might need adjustment, if the window is obstructed by something that will cause undo stress on the motor. So maybe over time it has burnt out the motor. Good luck hope you find a solution soon.
