My G23 99 Prelude and a little help.

Hi folks.

I purchased this car a while back, with very little mechanical skills under my belt, I had replaced a header and intake on my 08 SI but that was it.

When I test drove this Prelude I had to get it, it absolutely screamed.

Then, being that I am a moron at times, and I left the car sitting due to various mechanical issues for about 5months, those issues I ended up fixing myself. And I have changed out all the fluids, filters, wires plugs, and soon to have the MTX fluid changed. So I'm not a total embarrassment here... Just uniformed about my next question.

What type of difference am I going to be looking at with a g23 engine, k20pistons, (most of the rest is unknown changes) and a stock ECU to switching to a obd1 ecu/hondata and nice tune?
Was I stupid to have not tuned this before, meaning, was I possibly damaging the engine? I've drove it about 5k miles since I bought in all, few years ago.

Is there any obvious way for me to find out what exactly is in the engine? Which fuel injectors are being used etc? I don't mind doing a bit of investigative mechanical work to see what I have, but I haven't yet due to not knowing what I would be looking at once I did perhaps pull the valve cover or look at the injectors or whatever else.

Thanks for reading guys and gals.

Probably has stock h22 injectors. A g23 is an f23 bottom end with an h22 head. So everything connected to the head should be h22 related. Like the intake manifold, injectors, valve train etc.. That engine combo is definitely less common than the h23vtec Frankenstein or even just the blue top swap that many seem to be going with. Does your car have a g23 or is that what you want to build?

I currently have a g23 under the hood. I'm looking to tune soon, but wondering if the stock ECU is likely to damage the engine prior to tuning it for daily driving.

Thats the reason I mentioned figuring out exactly what I may have in the engine is because it is actually the g23 hybrid.

Re: My G23 99 Prelude and a little help.

Shouldn't hurt anything. Ive ran my stock ecu for 20k miles on my h23 frank that I built. No issues. Im not very knowledgeable on tuning. If your driving it and nothing bad has happened your fine. If something does happen my guess is it will be a mechanical issue and not a computers fault. Just my opinion. Hopefully somebody who knows more will chime in. Good luck, sounds like a cool motor.
