Determining what life is left in the motor? Potential purchase!

Hey guys, So I might be buying a 5th gen this weekend. Its got 250, fully loaded 5 spd. It's an SE. Is a compression test good enough to tell what life is left in the motor? Whats the most you would pay for something like this? Thanks

A simple vacuum gauge can tell you a lot. Trouble is, most either don't know how to use it (including yours truely) or they rely on some fancy gizmo to tell them what is going on.

Funny should should ask. I was just diving into how to use a vacuum gauge to try to decide whether to stick with my troublesome engine or swap in a new one this summer.
So here's a basic idea of how to use one.

How much to pay? That depends on the condition of the car, the market you are in and most important, how bad you want the car.
