gonna take some heat for this one..

Selling my prelude.. there, like a bandaid.

Ok, so like my car, iv always liked preludes and always will. But heres the thing.. speed is like a drug to me, and my prelude was like a gateway drug to more powerful drugs. I thought the addition of my h23a would would help, but it didnt, and now I need more. I also believe riding in my close friends mazdaspeed6 contributed to my needs.

Some other reasons I want to sell my car, it needs alot of work. (1) it needs a full exhaust, cracked header, molested down pipe, rusted flex pipe, hole under the center console, hanging low.. it needs replaced. (2) All my tires are shot, rear are worn on the inside, one of which requires air every two days. Donut on the front passenger side, curbed it and tore sidewall. Only good tire is my front driver. (3) it needs a new ecu to even utilize the power of the new engine but due to emmisions checks where I live I must keep my obd2 ecu. (4) again due emmisions check, I will not be able to renew my tags because I have a CEL that would rquire a new oil pump, coil, and distributor, but while im at it I would need to do the water pump, timing belt, and tensioner as well. Exhaust also hinders passing echeck. (5) the car is getting pretty rusty, doors, hood, trunk lid, rear qaurter panels, all getting bad and only getting worse from all the ohio salt and brine. (6) I live in OHIO in the fu.kin snow belt, and one wheel drive aint cuttin it.

Add up all the cost to happily own this car and I wont be happy.

So Im getting a wrx. Its turbo so it has the power I crave, its awd so it is good for my areas road conditions, its a four door and a bit roomier; Im a big guy and my family may expand too, you cant fit a family in a prelude.

Already have a buyer for the prelude, a wrx in my sights, and I even registered on a wrx forum, im pretty commited

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

Old junky preludes are not for the sqeemish, or those with shallow pockets. Then again no old car is..unless it's been pretty well gone over end to end with all new parts...

Best of luck with your new venture.

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

I mean im not intimidated by the work that needs to be done. Im entirely capable of fixing the car, all except the body work. And I could dig into my wallet and do it all if I wanted to, but the car isnt valuable enough to justify all the costs. If it was a jewl I would consider it, but its not.

Iv learned alot while iv owned my car, mostly not to buy the first thing you see and knowing what to look for when buying a new car, and as a result of learning those things iv also learned to replace an engine. But hey I had good time.

I do this alot though, im 19 and iv owned 13 vehicles, some on road, some off road, but 13 titles have been transfered in and eventually out of my name. I started when I was 13 with an 87 mustang and I dont see myself slowing down any time soon, its too much fun

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

I was intently looking for a mazdaspeed3 but decided against it because they are only front wheel drive, and a speed6 is awd but I dont want to have the same car as my friend, im more of a leader than a follower type of person. I decided the next best thing was subaru

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

In your situation, I would also go with a WRX or an STI (you're spending alot anyway) (any color except red).

It's a sporty car
It's Japanese
4 doors 4daFAM
AWD=All season fun
VTEC replacement->Boost

I'm 17 & your 19, you have had 13 cars?
What do you do for a living? Do you go to university?

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

Well I bought my mustang with 13 years of birthday and christmas money my parents never let me spend lol, my friends would be buying the new halo, I would be waiting to buy my first car. After that I doubled my money on the mustang and had the buy/sell/trade bug ever since. 87 mustang, 92 isuzu amigo, 89 nissan pickup, 96 f150, 87 toyota 4runner, 89 dakota, 94 wrangler, 94 f350 idi diesel, 04 blazer, 94 dodge ram 2500, 81 cj5 w/ sbf 289, 65 vw railbuggy, the luuuude, and finally my 93 f150. Thats actually 14, forgot the blazer, only had it a week.

I mowed grass till I was old enough to work, got a job at a&w, then little caesars pizza, went to vocational school for welding and my junior year in high school I was picked up by MAC trailer, now I mig weld aluminum dry bulk trailers 50 hours a week. It pays for my addictions lol

Im holding myself to a $10k limit, sti's are cool, just ask nick, but the cheapest I can find are 14k and they only go way up from there. So a clean low mileage bug eye wrx is right up my alley

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

your going to spend alot anyway? Why not get something nicer?
Payments/money? thats why I got my lude. I wanted something I can pay in full and be done with and call it MINE.

But your older and you have experience with a variety of cars, why not settle for something new?

You probably have plans for the lude and the potential bug eye right?

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I like 02-03 imprezas. And as you can tell im self made, I have noone to cosign for me that wouldnt hit me with an even higher interest rate lol, so I have to apply for the loan on my own. If I had a good cosigner I might have bought that 2011 sti I scouted months ago, but I dont.

Yeah, my plans for the lude are to sell it, remember lol. And as for the wrx, probably gonna keep it stock and just maintain it. The one I want has 85k miles and already has wheels, a cat back, and cai, I might see a cobb accessport in my future, but im looking for reliability now. It sucked when I was out of a vehicle for a month when I blew up my prelude, dont plan to put myself in that situation again

Then do this.^^^

I mean I get the need for reliable. I also get the need for speed thing too.

Aint no way my prelude could be my daily. Heck I'm in deep enough just keeping it going for joy rides. But reliability is the key. If you want a wrx, then great. But the practical thing to do is buy a grocery getter, get a couple of $500 signature loans, make payments on time, then in about 2 years you'll be getting interest rates like you've earned and deserve....without a co-signer!
Then you can buy a stellar car or keep the grocery getter and get you a kick@$$ weekend warrior car for only using in good weather.

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

This is going to help sooo many high school kids, cus i had the questions to these statements below that I had been dieing to find out.

I am a senior in high school and i make about $600/ month (I work part time).
My spendings:
Liability Insurance: $105/month or $605/6 months
Premium Gas: ~$25-$35 every two weeks
Cell phone bill: $50/month

so my monthly spending varies from: $75-$700

Now that I'm going to University pretty soon, I am kinda worried about my finances.
Haven't had much luck with scholarships or grants.
I prefer not taking a loan.
My parents don't want to me work first semester of college, but I probably have to if I want to keep my luxuries (Car & Phone) & The biggest potential hole: college.
I not going to community college because some of the credits won't transfer. But I will take the classes that will transfer.

My question to lukegreen:
How is life after highschool?
Are you living with you parents?
If you are not living with your parents, what are you expenses like?
What are some things you would do differently from age 17-current age?

Thanks.
Good Luck with your new purchase but please at least stay on the forum.

1) Enjoy your last year of high school, and especially your last year as a minor, do stupid things that you cant do when you have real responsibilities. I didnt play as much as I should have and now i cant. The real world sucks. I mean its got its ups and downs but I miss high school. I basically live at work, its dark when I go in and dark when I come out, and most saturdays I work too. Life out of high school will be different for you tho, I never got to experience college.
2) I moved out of my moms last week, the freedom and privacy is amazing
3) My expenses are very little, Im living with my girlfriend, her parents gave us a house rent free, just utilities and property tax.
4) So far I have no regrets, accept maybe getting in a serious relationship without whoring around first haha.

Emathew: you seem pretty eager to learn and have alot of enthusiasm but my advise to you is to read more than you type. Just constructive critisism. I give myself headaches sometimes slapping my forehead after reading your posts haha. If you have question do a thorough search, if you cant find the answer then think before you type, and be patient for help, dont spam your own threads.

As for my prelude, the flex pipe has now almost fallen off and now sound very obnoxious with the open header, im still waiting for the buyer to contact me, and the wrx I wanted sold. If I sell it im probably just gonna drive my truck for a while

Re: gonna take some heat for this one..

In my area all vehicles less than 25 years old require emmisions checks, if the vehicle was manufactured with a cat and you dont have one you fail automatically, its the first thing they check and they will not even test it if its missing. Obd2 vehicles fail automatically if they have a CEL.

If you show receipts for $300 or more for parts towards passing inspection, i.e. o2 sensors, catalytic converter, egr valve, gas cap, ect... they will waive the inspection. Wonder if the $800 motor I just installed counts? Haha

I can relate, but...
At 50 I have no regrets. None!
- By not whoring around I never got an std, never had jealous ex or husband shoot at me, have the satisfaction of being able to say I can count on one hand all the dames I've been with, and know there are hundreds of chix who lost a bet that they could be the one to get me to f@#k around on my dame.
- Have a beautiful wife, kids are grown, employers clamor to hire me because like you I was willing to go the extra mile. Have little debt.

My old high school chums still think it's 1980something, still pay credit card companies for 1980something, still haven't found inner peace, still have their high school year books at arms reach somewhere and still aint got a good job...

2 years ago I worked with a guy who has a 4 year degree. His 1st assingment on this bridge project was to tape the edges of hundreds of bridge plan sheets. No more paper cuts to the 40+ year vets crinkled up fingers. That kid b1tched and whined everyday that he has a college degree and all those wrinkled up hix should be taping the pages. He now sits in a cubicle counting all day. Another kid who has the same degree busted his butt 7 days a week, sun up to sun down, rain, snow, heat, cold etc and now gets to pick & choose his assigments. Both are the same age.

Luke, you've got more experience than most of the bail jumpers I went to school with, and your skills are and will be in more demand then 75% of the kids with college degrees who enter their 1st real job $100,000 in debt. In a few years, if you stay outta jail and keep on your current or similar path you'll have choices you can't even phathom yet.

Stay cool, enjoy the dame and keep up the good work my man.
