Check Engine Light on after Head and Valve Job

I recently had a head and valve job done on my 1999 Honda Prelude SH (157k miles) for a burnt out exhaust valve in cylinder #3. Immediately after the repair, the check engine light and ATTS light turned on. I returned to the shop and the mechanic scanned the car which pulled a misfire in cylinder #3. He told me to simply drive the car for 1,000 miles and then return to see if the problem persisted. Well, after putting 1,200 miles on the car, the check engine/ATTS lights are still on.

On January 30, 2015, he performed a general engine scope, secondary ignition Kv test, engine compression power balance test, injection signal/max power spike test on the car and also changed the oil, replaced the distributor cap/rotor. He used his device to turn the check engine/ATTS lights off. Today, the lights came back on.

I dropped $2,700 to get this job done (head and valve, water pump replaced in San Francisco, CA). I just feel like after all that money, the car shouldn't have any issues with misfires.

So the questions I have are:
1. What is causing this misfire?
2. How do I resolve this issue?
3. Any long-term damage to the car if this "misfire" isn't addressed?

I'd appreciate any advice/opinions on this matter. Thanks guys!

Clean your egr valve and ports.

if that doesn't resolve the issue - your timing could be off or need a valve adjustment

ATTS lamp is usually unrelated to engine issues. But not always.

Is your car running ok?

Go to the diy section here and download a service manual. Look in chapter 15. Page 15-16 has the codes for the ATTS. It looks like if your MAP sensor has an issue, your Fuel Injection system, and a couple other motor related issues, they could cause both the CEL and ATTS lamps to light.

Re: Check Engine Light on after Head and Valve Job

Hey thanks for the replies guys. Sorry I've been busy and haven't been able to check this site for responses.

I'm honestly too busy to perform any DIY stuff to the car. I would like to just bring it back to the shop and have them resolve the issue once and for all. I need to get the car smogged to renew my DMV registration and I know the CEL will not allow the car to pass.

I'm assuming the shop is obligated to repair the issue since they did the work on the car. No other major issues with the car and it drives okay. I feel as though it isn't getting the same amount of power as it did before the exhaust valve burnt out.

Any thoughts?

Timing off... just take the car back.
