Re: SUUUUUSPENSION!!!! AAAHHHH!!

You're right. Everyone on the forum say its not a big deal everyone in real life say it needs new suspension.
I will let yall know the final decision tomorrow.
Thanks for all the help.

Hahaha, You know right after i hit "submit reply", closed my browser, and shut my laptop, I was like: "Wait Whaaa? Did I? Should I rephrase that?"...and then I forgot about it.

I knew someone would say something about that.

I know what yall are thinking lol, but its not BC coilovers.
Its ST Suspensions SWAY BARS!

Thoughts? Worth it? I'm going for speed and handling, so should this be better than stock? Worth the upgrade?

First Question^

Second request regarding your experience:
Also has anyone heard of AMR engineering?
Do yall have any experience with them?
And yes they make coilovers for out Prelude, but you gotta have the mulla:https://amrengineering.com/product/1...ing-coilovers/

Re: SUUUUUSPENSION!!!! AAAHHHH!!

Just get a set of F&F or BC, for the money - both are nice. The AMR are beyond what you'll ever need in a coilover, would be a waste to spend the extra amount.

You could even go with TEIN coilovers - which are rebuildable through TEIN for a small fee (50 per strut i think). But also on the overall pricy side...

I feel the factory are good enough unless you plan to track the car.

Upgraded swaybars on my 08' Si allow me to take on/off ramps a little more smoother/quicker - but that's the only time I ever notice them.

Re: SUUUUUSPENSION!!!! AAAHHHH!!

Oooh, Mugen. They are a nice looking piece of kit, but from what I can find the spring rates are really low, like 3.4kgf/mm(F) & 3.8kgf/mm(R). And like all things Mugen, horribly overpriced for what you are getting. Bragging rights are way up there though.

IDK about those AMR coils, I've always been a bit dubious of any coilover that only has a single adjustment sleeve, it's usually only done by the cheaper brands. The whole setup relies on a little grub screw to avoid dropping on you. The bottom mount for the rears does look a little light, but the shock in a double wishbone suspension experiences practically no lateral load so it should hold up better than you'd think. They seem to be a relatively new brand too only starting up in '05, might be ok but I don't think there'd be many prelude owners running them.

I believe the ST bars are a 25mm hollow chrome-moly right? The 22mm solid bar in the back of mine is plenty stiff enough for street use, I'm still using the stock front bar. IDK who I was saying this to recently, but give serious thought to upgrading your rear swaybar mounts if you do go for such a large bar, they can/will rip out eventually like mine did (and many others). You probably don't need to upgrade the front sway bar at all. Upping the rear bar helps to induce a little oversteer (combating the 'ludes natural tendency to understeer), upgrading both bars at once brings it back to neutral but you get the benefit of less body roll and essentially a higher spring rate. 25mm bars AND coilovers would be pretty rigid.

I might be old, but I don't have to start a thread asking which coil overs to get.

The dinasaurs taught me to read.

Re: SUUUUUSPENSION!!!! AAAHHHH!!

I have an 01 base model prelude and a mugen civic si.

I agree with tassie, rear brackets will need to be upgraded, as well as bushings and consider upgrading endlinks.

I've read that many guys that track their cars, actually remove their front all together.

Re: SUUUUUSPENSION!!!! AAAHHHH!!

After my experience with TEIN I wouldn't recommend it. I'm not sure what the previous owner did but he only had them for a little more than a year, and the front were shot. Once I took em off, I could push the strut all the way down by hand. My car handled like a damn boat.

But they are a cheap company from what I heard. Not bad, but cheap. Get what you pay for kinda thang.

I got some KYB AGX Shocks and Struts with Ground Control Coilover Sleeves and it is the bee's knees. Dampening, and height are fully adjustable and they look pretty.

Now granted the guy before had it lightweight slammed and my rear tires' cord was showing due to camber wear but still I'm cool off TEINs.

You can see what I was dealing w/ here.

OH and my suspension all together was around 700. Autoanything damn near always has a discount.

EDIT: I currently have no camber plates and a couple of homies advise me to get some and I'm stock a little lower than stock height till I get bigger wheels and have had no bottoming out of any kind.

@Paz: Yo could you post up a spec sheet of your suspension?
Like what model and spring rates and such, that would be great help.
-Thanks

Re: SUUUUUSPENSION!!!! AAAHHHH!!

You get what you pay for. Tein has a recommended rebuild timeframe that nearly everyone ignores. I have superstreet with pillowmounts, the highest ones besides flex which just have a slightly stiffer spring rate.

For a driven car, they can ride like stock or stiffen slightly with the dampening adjustability. Really depends on what you want overall.

I had a bad experience with tein due to them not having a HR at the time of my rebuild. Otherwise I want more from a strut than what they can offer for our cars.

Edit*

And our cars use adjustable upper balljoints or complete adjustable uca both aftermarket... if you needed to adjust camber. I recommend a lot more research
