Weak Sunroof

My sunroof is so slow, when I try to open/close it, it sounds like it does not have enough power to move the glass sunroof, I feel like its clogged or bad wires or too much friction, Do I need to remove and rebuild the whole thing?
I haven't tried WD-40 or any grease yet. (haven't got the time, I have been ridiculously busy, another reason I haven't been posting on PZ)

I did do some research on PZ and all I found was a whole bunch of post about converting 4th gen sunroof to a 5th gen sunroof.

any leads greatly appreciated.

Re: Weak Sunroof

Mine is slow and sounds underpowered.
So I got to thinking...is this normal or is my 18 year old moonroof in need of some TLC?

Chapter 20 of the service manual gives a breakdown of the components.
But before ya go all elbows and arses into the project, first a little maintenance...

Sun roof rubber seal maintenance?
^^ here's some info.
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126...topics/1368618
^^ or how about some debate among snobs?

Try cleaning up all the moving parts and applying some silicone grease.

And when you get done, maybe do your first 'how to' thread here. As you stated, a search leads to sunroof swap. There is mucho information here at this prelude enthusiast site about how to modify these cars. Yet at this point the newest ones are roughly 14 years old. So maintenance information is becoming very important. And I think it's fair to say that right many Honda Prelude sunroofs still have what's left of the factory lube in the moving parts.

Re: Weak Sunroof

Discontinued part from honda, so clean it and grease or look into an aftermarket motor

Re: Weak Sunroof

I had a similar issue. Clean all of the old grease out of the tracks and replace it with new clean grease. Works like a charm. I had to do it a couple times just to get all of the old grease worked out of the mechanisms.

Re: Weak Sunroof

That's 'axle' grease. Fine for dabbing on a bike peddle as an anti-sieze or over the splines to lube the connection of your new transaxles..but not as sun roof lube.
Attracts too much dirt and turns into a plastic like substance over time.

Something to get you through the winter or until you can get proper sunroof lube and you probably have some in your house....vasoline.

Re: Weak Sunroof

Get 3M Silicone paste for the tracks (can also be used on caliper slides, ignition parts, body grounds, rubber bushing, etc.) this stuff is awesome.

Use Silicone Lube for the outside molding.

Is the 3M stuff readily available?

Looks like NAPA sells it, but they don't have stores all over the place like those other big box part stores.

I'm from Toronto, Canada and had to order it in from "Napa", the bigger box stores didn't carry it. If Napa couldn't get it for me I'd be forced to get it off Ebay. Product has many uses.
