Icon5 Airbags Deployed

Hey guys,

So I just recently got into an accident. Hydroplaned and ended up doing an S turn.

Anyway, my airbags deployed. I've been looking around at what I need to do. Right now I have a helms manual, and I just put in an order for both front and passenger airbags, along with a new SRS control sensor (the one under the dash near the foot pedals).

As far as I can tell, it looks pretty simple, just unplug the battery, wait, then replace bags and SRS unit, then do a reset to get rid of the nasty lights. Is there anything I'm missing?

If I replace the bags and sensor, then connect power, its not going to redeploy on my face is it? Lol, that would not be fun.

I have a 2001 honda prelude SH.

Re: Airbags Deployed

You have a manual already. Great!!!

Read and understand the instructions in the manual on how to store it, what temps and all that.
Take your time!

Update us on what happens. We wanna know our own selves.lol

I think keeping them stored face-down or up or whatever is key (if memory serves) and at not let it (them in your case) get too hot or cold.

^^ that statement says you probably aren't.

But remember, many a seasoned cop has been shot by his own weapon during cleaning...ie accidents happen...

Best of luck to ya.

Re: Airbags Deployed

So updating...

I have managed to get the passenger airbag and driver in. It took a while bc one of the sellers on ebay kept sending me the wrong airbag lol! Anyway, im now in the process of having to reset the light with a homemade MES jumper. (paper clip)

Unfortunately, this method is not working. I get everything jumped... take it out, put it back in, take it out again, and wait for light to blink twice. However the light does NOT blink at all. It just comes back on. Whats the dealio?

Re: Airbags Deployed

What I read on p 24-56 is the lamp comes on for about 6 seconds then turns off.

I'm seeing nothing about flashing.

Re: Airbags Deployed

I decided to see if there were any codes involved. Jumped the comp, flashing lights blah blah blah.

Turns out the other computer I grabbed was also in an accident. I need to get a new OEM one or just one that hasn't been in a crashed car. Maybe junkyar.

Myairbags.com has them for $60 a pop.... or $45 to clear all codes off your original computer but you have to send it in.

A little late to this one but I have both bags and the ECM for sale. I'm parting out my interior and selling it all together.

Re: Airbags Deployed

So I took another risk and ordered another SRS unit off of ebay. But this time I emailed the junkyard to see if this computer was intact/not damaged, yada yada right? They say no.

So i order this thing and wait for it in the mail. Gets here, and I install the new computer. Everything so far went great, except the light is still on.

So I grab my make-shift MES connector (paper clip) and reset the memory. Successful, but still comes on.

So I'm going "Oh **** me. What else do I need to do." And I pull the codes and watch all the lights blink. 2-1. Open connection to the passenger.

Luckily, the guy who sent me the driver side airbag sent an extra passenger so I grab that and prepare to get going to replace the passenger at 10pm. Until I notice something, my friend forgot to connect the airbag to the sensor. I freak out. "I DON'T HAVE TO REPLACE THIS AT 10PM?!"

So I go back, reset the memory, SRS LIGHT TURNS OFF. So all in all, valuable experience. Saved myself a lot of money! And I'm a very happy 18 year old kid Lol.

OH! I would hit you up, but everything went successful! I no longer need it. But I will let you know if someone I know needs one.

Thanks!
