Electicral problems immediately after a jump start. Please help!

So my 98 prelude sh was sitting outside my house for a solid month and a half and it's winter. Then I decided to move in the garage and I knew the battery will need a jump after sitting in the cold for so long. I got an optima yellow too btw and I've never had electrical/ charging issues until now. After I jump started the car, I moved it inside the garage and let it warm up to charge the battery. Then after its warmed up after like 15 minutes I turned it off thinking its all charged up but then it's not!!! After I turn it off, I lost all power and cannot turn it back on. The dash ligths or door curtesy ligths don't even come on when the key is in. All power is gone. Again, never had any electrical problems. any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Get a volt meter and see what the battery has, a fully charged battery has about 13 volts, if your battery is low jump start the car and check the battery again while running, if your charging system is working correctly you should see an increase in voltage from when the car was not running, if you do not see an increase or you see a decrease this could mean your alternator is bad. Also check to see that the hot wire going to the fuse panel under the hood is tight, there is a phillips 8mm or 10mm bolt holding it, if that is loose clean the contact surface and tighten it, if not still clean it. Same with the battery posts. You want all the electrical contact surfaces nice and clean.

All Gen. Prelude Service Manuals
^^ chapter 23

Ok start with the basics. Fuses are shown in the manual. Start with those.
Check your battery cable connections at both ends.

And for future reference, if a battery needs boosting a 15 minute recharge with an alternator won't be enough. Your best bet is an over night trickle charge.

You may have a bad battery. Even those pricey ones fail. You can read up on how a battery that was fine when charged was no bueno after a discharge.
Once I left my lights on and ran the battery down in my work vehicle. A jump start and let it run for several hours later the battery was dead...I mean no buzzer, no nothing dead. It had started fine that morning. Btw it was only 9 months old.

If the battery is ok do like Luke said and investigate your charging system.

15 minutes is not long enough to charge a battery from stone dead. Did you try a known good battery? Probably gonna have to put the optimal on a charger for a good 8 hrs.

Re: Electicral problems immediately after a jump start. Please help!

sounds like a dead battery...or battery is no good anymore

will it not jump start again? is that what your saying as all power is dead? of course it has no power if battery is still not charged

because if you shut it off after 15 min thinking that having it idling
it's charging your battery good enough your wrong. The alternator puts barely any power out unless the rev's come up, driving around the block would of been a better idea to try and charge it.

Get a volt meter and see what battery says... if its still dead get a real battery charger and try to charge it for an hr or two and it might come back or just buy a new battery

Re: Electicral problems immediately after a jump start. Please help!

Thanks for all the replies guy, I really appreciate it. Just to be clear when I first jumped it with another car I let it sit for a solid 15 minutes with the cables hooked up, when I cranked it I barely had enough power to start it, I'd figure I will get all power back to the battery once I started it. but I'm back to no power after letting the car warm up and run for another 15 minutes. I can still jump start it and get power from a car charger. I havent tried jump starting it again but I know it's possible cause when I hook it up to a charger Atleast I get my dash ligths to work. it's just odd that even after I warmed the car up after jump starting it, when I turned it off and tried to turn it back on I have no power at all, not even a little to work the dash ligths. I'm going to take the battery to autozone to get it charged or tested.

This happened to me to, I replaced my battery terminal connectors and have never had any issues since then, but naturally your going to want to check all your electrical and fuses. Make sure your battery terminals and nice and tight also as that could be the issue.

What? Speak slowly. Use captal letters and periods...what you said makes no sense. Why would you do anything to your battery cables if your idle is the problem?
